I, starting from contemplating the results of actions and so forth, strive in various doors of accumulating merit and purifying obscurations. This is the preliminary of the mind of enlightenment, the seven-branch method of training the mind, and refuge, etc., can all be transformed as appropriate. Therefore, it should be understood that these are also the means of generating that mind. Here, the Lama should also clearly explain how the small and medium Dharma categories can be transformed into branches for generating the unsurpassed mind of enlightenment. The disciples should also gain certainty about this, and encourage each other to remember them, and it is extremely important to practice them as branches for generating the mind of enlightenment. If this is not done, the path of the great person and the individual paths will become unrelated, and until one reaches the actual path of the great person, one will not gain any certainty about the mind of enlightenment, thus becoming an obstacle to generating that mind, or in the meantime, one will fall away from the great meaning. Therefore, one should strive in this. Having practiced the small and medium paths in this way, and having practiced well as described in the context of the great person, one should generate the unfabricated mind of enlightenment in one's own mind stream. After that, in order to stabilize that mind, one should first take uncommon refuge, and then perform the ritual of aspiration. Having been upheld by the ritual of aspiration, one should strive to practice its precepts. After that, one should extensively cultivate the desire to learn the bodhisattva's conduct, the six perfections, the four means of attraction, etc. When the desire to learn arises from the depths of one's heart, one must definitely take the pure vows of entering the path. After that, one should risk one's life to protect against transgressing the root downfalls, and one should also strive not to be defiled by other small and medium stains and misdeeds. If one has been defiled, one should also purify the downfalls well as it has been said. After that, one should generally study the six perfections, and in particular, in order to be able to use the mind as desired on virtuous objects, one should well study the samadhi of the nature of calm abiding. In the "Lamp for the Path," it is said that calm abiding is cultivated for the sake of generating clairvoyance, but this is only an example. In other situations, the venerable one himself has also said that calm abiding should also be cultivated for the sake of generating superior insight. After that, in order to cut the bonds of clinging to the two selves, one should contemplate the meaning of selflessness and emptiness.

Having made a firm resolution, cultivate the essence of wisdom by practicing the correct method of meditation, making it even more excellent. Thus, apart from practicing shamatha and vipassana, studying the precepts of entering and guarding, etc., is the training in discipline; shamatha is the training in samadhi or mind; and vipassana is the training in wisdom, as stated in the commentary on the Lamp for the Path. Furthermore, shamatha and below are the aspect of skillful means and the accumulation of merit, as well as the path based on conventional truth and the stages of the vast path; generating the three special wisdoms is the aspect of wisdom and the accumulation of wisdom, as well as the path based on ultimate truth and the stages of the profound path. Therefore, one must generate great certainty about their order and the certainty of their number, and that enlightenment cannot be achieved by separating skillful means and wisdom. In this way, the prince swan who goes to the great ocean of the Buddha's qualities spreads the wings of the conventional truth, which are the vast and complete aspects of skillful means, and the wings based on the ultimate truth, which are the two understandings of thatness and selflessness, and proceeds. It does not proceed by taking only a part of the path, like a bird with a broken wing. As it is said in the Introduction to the Middle Way: "The conventional is the wide white wing, the king of swans is the goose of sentient beings, leading forward with the strength of the wind of virtue, surpassing and going to the far shore of the ocean of Buddha's qualities." Thus it is said. Thus, after taming one's mind stream with the common paths, one must definitely enter the secret mantra, because entering that path will quickly complete the two accumulations. If one is not capable of that much, or if one is unwilling to enter because of the weakness of one's lineage ability, then one should simply make the stages of the path more extensive. If one enters the secret mantra, then in general all vehicles, and especially the secret mantra, say that one should be more diligent. Therefore, the way to rely on a spiritual friend should be more excellent than before, and then one should follow what is said. Then, one should ripen one's mind stream with the empowerment that comes from the root tantras, and at that time, one should protect all the vows and commitments that one has received by risking one's life.
