From (omitted here) and follow the intermediate teachings, instructions, and subsequent teachings. When they realize that they have great wisdom, they preach profound teachings and follow subtle instructions and subsequent teachings. This is the way to gradually bestow benefits on those sentient beings. Thus it is said. Āryadeva also in the Compendium of Practices Lamp (Caryāsaṃgraha-pradīpa), first practice the thought of the Paramita Vehicle, and then it is necessary to enter the mantra in a sequential manner, and summarize its meaning: For the first sentient beings with karma, when entering the meaning of the holy ones, this method is the complete Buddha, spoken like a ladder sequence. Thus it is said. In the Four Hundred Verses, it is also said: First stop non-virtue, in the middle stop self, and finally stop all views, whoever knows this is wise. Thus it is said that the path has a definite order. The wise teacher Mākola also said: Like a spotless cloth dyed with color, first with words such as giving, generate goodness in the heart, and then practice the Dharma. Thus it is said. This teaching was also cited by the great teacher Candrakīrti as a basis for making a definite order of the path, so in practice, guiding the order of the path seems extremely important, so a firm understanding of this principle should be obtained. Second, there are three ways to actually take the essence: cultivating the mind in the order of the path common to the inferior person, cultivating the mind in the order of the path common to the intermediate person, and cultivating the mind in the order of the path of the great person. The first has three: the actual practice of cultivating the mind of the inferior person, the measure of the arising of that mind, and the elimination of its wrong discriminations. The first has two: generating the mind of seeking the benefit of the next life, and relying on the means of happiness in the next life. The first has two: contemplating the impermanence of this world, the mindfulness of death, and contemplating the happiness and suffering of the two destinies of how the next world will change. The first has four: the faults of not cultivating mindfulness of death, the benefits of cultivating it, what kind of mind of mindfulness of death arises, and the way of cultivating mindfulness of death. The first is: Thus, leisure and endowment

Regarding engaging in taking the essence from the leisure and endowments, the misperception of clinging to impermanence as permanence becomes the door of harm in the first place. Among these, from the perspective of the coarse impermanence, which is death, the very thought of thinking that one will not die is the door of harm. Regarding this, although everyone thinks that they will eventually die, they think every day that they will not die today, and they will not die today, and the mind clings to the side of not dying, and this happens even at the time of death. If one does not remember its antidote, and is obscured by such a thought, then the thought of wanting to stay in this life arises, and then thinking that this and that are needed during this time, one focuses solely on the methods of pursuing happiness and eliminating suffering in this life. Therefore, the thought of contemplating the great meanings such as the next life, liberation, and omniscience will not arise, and the thought of engaging in the Dharma will not arise. Even if one in a hundred engages in listening, contemplation, and meditation, etc., it is only for the sake of this life, and whatever virtuous deeds are done are weak. Moreover, since it is associated with misdeeds and transgressions, it is rare for it not to be mixed with the causes of bad migrations. Even if one were to practice with the aim of the next life, one would not be able to prevent the laziness of procrastination, thinking that one will gradually practice later, and one would waste time with sleepiness, idle talk, and distractions such as food and drink, so one would not be able to practice properly with great diligence. In this way, being deceived by the hope of living a long life, strong attachment arises to gain and respect, etc., and strong hatred arises towards those who hinder or are suspected of hindering these, as well as the delusion of being ignorant of the faults of these, and the afflictions and near afflictions such as pride and jealousy that arise from these, arise like a river. Moreover, the ten non-virtuous actions of body, speech, and mind, as well as the five heinous crimes and near heinous crimes, and abandoning the holy Dharma, etc., which lead to severe suffering such as bad migrations, increase day by day, possessing extraordinary power. And one turns one's back on the well-spoken antidote, the nectar of the Dharma.
