Pages 101 to 200. Pages 101 to 200. If burned in time and washed with water, then on those ornaments, it will become manifest in a way that is soft and easy to work with. Just as a blacksmith or a skilled disciple of a blacksmith, knowing the craft that suits him, uses the blacksmith's tools to transform the shape of the ornament into whatever he desires. Likewise, when the yogi's mind is wearied by not inclining towards defilements and impurities such as greed, and by not inclining towards the unpleasantness of afflictions, and when he is delighted by inclining towards being manifestly pleased with virtuous things, then the yogi, when he definitely joins that mind with whichever aspect of calm abiding or insight, it will become very close, very calm, unmoving, and unshakeable, and it will also go forth in order to accomplish the meaning as it was thought. Thus it was said. Furthermore, the main obstacles to samadhi, which is the mind remaining stable on one object, are two: dullness and excitement. If there is a strong and lasting power of intelligence that sees the qualities of the Three Jewels and so on, then it is very easy to cut off dullness. For many qualified ones have said that its antidote is to uplift the mind by way of seeing qualities. If there is a strong and lasting power of intelligence that sees the faults such as impermanence and suffering, then it is very easy to cut off excitement. For excitement is a distracted mind belonging to the category of desire, so the scriptures praise renunciation as its antidote. Therefore, the more one cultivates from training faith in the spiritual friend up to training the entering mind, the more easily those stable samadhis that please the wise will be accomplished. Not only in settling meditation, but also in analytical meditation, one must practice by being free from dullness and excitement. The learned, former lamas of this oral tradition lineage, in order to bring about correct understanding of the scope of whatever object is assigned for the occasion, explain the meaning of the sutras and treatises that are appropriate for the occasion by means of the lama's instructions.

Thinking in the heart, adorning with the previous statements, explaining comprehensively, when someone who can preach the Dharma explains to someone who can understand, saying that secretly contemplating is as difficult as the debates of monastic philosophy, this is very good and satisfying. Now, saying that this is a special time for practice, so it is not right to do even a little bit, because saying that the time for hearing and thinking and the time for practice are contrary to each other, saying a lot of Dharma and the time for practice, this is a wrong view. However, if all the teachings can be turned into practice, this seems to be the highest state, so some brief methods of practice should also be set aside separately. Whether all the scriptures can appear as key instructions seems to depend on whether one has gained certainty about this method of practice. Not to mention those who have not studied the Tripitaka, even those who have studied the great Sutra and Tantra scriptures for a long time, when practicing the path, it seems that they will first think of the scriptures they have studied. Although it is necessary to make a detailed decision, but because I am worried about saying too much, I will stop here. The refutation of wrong views on the method of practice is completed. Now, in order to explain how the disciple who relies on the virtuous friend in accordance with the Dharma, as mentioned earlier, is guided by the lama, therefore, secondly, the order of how to train the mind after relying on it is divided into two: encouraging to take the essence for the sake of the leisure and endowment, and the reason for how to take the essence. The first part is divided into three: recognizing leisure and endowment, thinking about its great significance, and thinking about its difficulty in obtaining. The first part is divided into two: leisure and endowment. The first is: From "Collecting Precious Qualities": With the restraint of precepts, the nature of many sentient beings such as animals, cutting off the eight unfree states, thereby constantly obtaining leisure. As it is said, being free from the eight unfree states is leisure and endowment. The eight unfree states are: From "Friendly Letter": Holding wrong views and animals, in the realm of hungry ghosts and hell, born in a place where the Buddha's teachings do not flourish and in a borderland, born as barbarians and as foolish and dumb, in any of the long-lived heavens, are the eight faults of unfree states, having obtained leisure by being free from them, therefore you should strive to cut off birth and death. As it is said. That is, the four assemblies do not flourish.
