, and entering many new doorways, so that each day can be made meaningful with leisure. If these are not considered now, then when falling into the lower realms, even seeking refuge to save from those fears will not be found. At that time, there will be no power of wisdom to discern what should be done and what should not be done. As it says in the Bodhicharyavatara: "When I have the fortune to practice virtue, if I do not practice virtue myself, all the sufferings of the lower realms are ignorant, what shall I do at that time?" And: "Who will skillfully save me from this great fear?" With eyes wide open in terror, one seeks refuge in all four directions. Seeing that there is no refuge in the four directions, one then becomes completely despondent. If there is no refuge there, what shall I do at that time? Therefore, the Victorious One is the protector of beings, striving to save all sentient beings, the mighty one who dispels all fears, from this day forth, I take refuge in that尊. So it is said. These are just rough outlines; the details are in the Mindfulness Sutra, so it is necessary to read it, and to read it again and again, and to contemplate what has been read. Second, there are two ways to rely on happiness in the next life: cultivating refuge, the supreme gateway to entering the Dharma; and generating faith, the root of all happiness and well-being. The first has four parts: the cause of taking refuge based on what; the object of taking refuge based on that; the manner in which refuge is taken; and the order of what should be learned after taking refuge. The first is: In general, there are many causes, but in this case, as mentioned before, because one thinks that one cannot stay in this life and will die quickly, and that after death one has no autonomy over where one will be reborn, but is subject to karma. As it says in the Bodhicharyavatara: "Just as lightning flashes in the dark clouds at night, showing a moment of light, so too, by the power of the Buddhas, in hundreds of paths, worldly merit and wisdom arise occasionally. Therefore, virtue is always weak, and sin is strong and extremely unbearable." As it says. Because white karma is weak and black karma is extremely strong, thinking about the prospect of falling into the lower realms, fear and dread arise, and thus the mind of seeking refuge arises.

The elephant of Po-phyog said: The endless cycle of existence, exists in the ocean. The unbearable things like attachment, the body is devoured by crocodiles, to whom shall I turn for refuge today? As it is said. In short, it is the fear of falling into bad destinies, and the belief that the Three Jewels have the power to save from them. Therefore, if these two remain only in words, then taking refuge is similar to that. If these two are strong and stable, then taking refuge will also become convincing, so one should strive for these two causes. Based on this, there are two objects of refuge: identifying the object, and the reason why it is worthy of refuge. The first is, in the "Hundred and Fifty Praises" it says: For one who has no faults at all, and in whom all qualities reside in every way, if there is a mind, one should take refuge in that, praise it, honor it, and abide in its teachings. As it is said. If there is a mind that can distinguish between refuge and non-refuge, then it is reasonable to take refuge in the infallible refuge, the Buddha Bhagavan. This also represents the Dharma and Sangha Jewels, as it is said in the "Seventy Verses on Refuge": The Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha are the refuge of those who desire liberation. As it is said. There are four reasons why one is worthy of refuge: First, because one's own nature is extremely subdued, one has attained the state of fearlessness. If one has not attained this, like a fallen person relying on a fallen person, one cannot protect others from all fears. Second, because one is skilled in all ways in the methods of taming those to be tamed. If one does not have this, even if one takes refuge, the purpose will not be accomplished. Third, because one possesses great compassion. If one does not have this, even if one takes refuge, one will not be protected. Fourth, one is not pleased by all material offerings, but is pleased by offerings of practice. If one does not have this, one will look at past favors and not be a refuge for all. In short, one is liberated from all fears, skilled in the methods of liberating others from fear, and engages with great compassion equally towards all. Bestowing benefits
