They are also squeezed. Again, when they gather, they are put into a huge iron wheel and squeezed like squeezing sugarcane. Then, when they gather again, a huge iron boulder falls from above, cutting, splitting, pounding, and tormenting them on the iron ground. At those times, rivers of blood also flow profusely. In the wailing, those beings seek shelter and enter iron houses. Once inside, fire burns everywhere, incinerating them. In the great wailing, it is similar to before, but the difference is that there are two layers of iron houses. In the hot hell, those beings are put by the hell guards into many containers made of iron and copper, which are extremely hot and burning, boiled and roasted like fish. They are pierced from the buttocks with extremely hot and burning iron skewers, piercing through the crown of the head, and from the two holes of the mouth, eyes, nose, and ears, and from all the pores of the hair, flames blaze forth. They are laid face up or face down on the extremely hot and burning iron ground, and beaten and tormented with hot and burning iron hammers. In the extremely hot hell, a three-pronged iron skewer is inserted into the buttocks, with the two tips on the left and right piercing through the two shoulders, and the middle tip piercing through the crown of the head. Because of this, burning flames emerge from the gates of the mouth and so on. Hot and burning iron sheets wrap around the entire body, and they are placed headfirst into a large iron and copper cauldron filled with boiling molten metal, where they are stirred up and down. At that time, the skin, flesh, and blood melt away, and even when only the skeleton remains, it is taken out and spread on the iron ground. Then, the skin, flesh, and blood grow back, and they are put back in. The rest is similar to the hot hell. In the Avīci hell, starting from the east, there are hundreds of thousands of areas made of land, burning and spreading everywhere. The power of the burning flames comes, gradually destroying the skin, flesh, tendons, and bones of those beings, down to the soles of their feet. Like the wick of a butter lamp, the entire body is covered with burning flames. The other three directions are also the same, and the fire coming from the four directions mixes there.

It is merely the awareness of sentient beings uttering miserable cries due to the unceasing experience of suffering. Furthermore, they are made to roll burning, blazing iron lumps within iron filings. On an iron ground, they are made to ascend and descend great iron mountains. Also, their tongues are pulled out from their mouths and stretched with a hundred iron nails, flattened like cowhide, leaving no wrinkles or folds. Again, they are laid supine on an iron ground, their mouths are opened with iron splitting tools, and burning iron lumps are inserted into their mouths, and boiling copper is poured in, causing their mouths, throats, and intestines to burn, flowing out from their lower bodies. The remaining residue is like being intensely heated. These are merely gross harms, but there are also many other diverse harms. As for the extent of the place where they dwell and those sufferings, they are written as they are spoken of in the basic text of the earth. As for how long those sufferings are experienced, it is said in the Letter to a Friend: 'Thus, even if one experiences extremely unbearable suffering for hundreds of thousands of millions of years, one will not be separated from life until one's non-virtue is exhausted.' As it is said, one must experience those sufferings until the power of the karma that causes those sufferings is exhausted. Moreover, fifty human years are one day for the Four Great Kings. Thirty of those days are a month, and twelve months are a year, and five hundred years is the lifespan of the Four Great Kings. Considering all of that as one day, thirty days as a month, and twelve months as a year, five hundred years is the lifespan of the Reviving Hell. Similarly, one hundred, two hundred, four hundred, eight hundred, and sixteen hundred human years are one day each for the Thirty-three Gods up to the Gods Who Wield Power Over Others' Emanations, respectively. The length of life can last for a thousand, two thousand, four thousand, eight thousand, and sixteen thousand divine years. These, in order, from the Black Line Hell to the Hot Hell, each day lasts from one's own age of a thousand to sixteen thousand years.
