One should also contemplate in detail the manner in which harm is inflicted, as well as the manner in which harm descends from internal diseases and external elements. Furthermore, one's own body must be composed of the four elements, and these elements also harm each other. Therefore, when the elemental realms are unbalanced and increase or decrease, diseases arise and take life. These harms are co-born with oneself, so the body and life are unreliable. As it says in the Great Liberation Sutra: "The perception of death is that this life is always surrounded by many enemies, diminishing at every moment, and there is nothing that increases." And in the Garland of Jewels it says: "The Lord of Death dwells within conditions, like a lamp in a red wind." And in the Letter to a Friend it says: "Life is moved by many harmful winds, even more impermanent than a water bubble. Breathing in and out, falling asleep and waking up, what leisure is there? It is extremely rare." And in the Four Hundred Verses it says: "Because of powerlessness, in all that arises, aggregation is called birth and change. To say that there is happiness in contradictory things is unreasonable in every way." So it is said. Because it is a time when the five degenerations are extremely rampant, the accumulation of powerful virtuous deeds that can prolong life is extremely rare, and the power of medicines such as food is also small, so the power to subdue diseases is weak. It is difficult to digest what is enjoyed, and the power to increase the four great elements of the body is weakened, so it is difficult to digest, and even if it is digested, it is of little help. The accumulation of merit is meager, and misdeeds are extremely serious, so recitations and so on also become weak, making it extremely difficult to prolong life and so on. There are no conditions for survival that do not become conditions for death. In order not to die, one seeks food, shelter, and friends, but these can also become conditions for death through eating too much or too little, or enjoying unsuitable things, as well as through the collapse of a dwelling or being deceived by a friend. Therefore, there are no conditions for survival that do not become conditions for death. Furthermore, living itself is entering into the meaning of death, so even if there are many conditions for survival, one should not trust them.

Furthermore, the Ratnavali states: "The causes of death are many, while the causes of life are few. And even those are also causes of death. Therefore, always accumulate Dharma." It is said. Thinking that it is uncertain when one will die because the body is very fragile: Since the body is as fragile as a water bubble, it does not need great harm; even harm like a thorn prick can become a cause for the destruction of life. Therefore, it is also very easy to be destroyed by all the causes of death. The Suhrllekha states: "When seven suns burn, the earth and Mount Meru, and the ocean, even these beings will be burned to ashes. What need is there to mention a very fragile human?" It is said. Having thought in this way, it is not apparent when the Lord of Death will destroy the body and life. Therefore, without wasting time, make a firm decision to practice Dharma from now on, and make many vows. The Kanikalekha states: "The Lord of Death is not familiar with anyone, and will suddenly descend. Do not say 'I will do it tomorrow,' but quickly engage in the sacred Dharma. Saying 'I will do this today and that tomorrow' is not good for people. That tomorrow when you will be gone, the demon will surely come without fail." And the Lord of Yoga, Shri Jagatamitra Ananta, also said: "Like a landowner, this borrowed body, without disease, without decline, exists in happiness. At that very time, take the essence, and make yourself fearless from disease, death, and decline. When old age and decline come, even if you remember, what can you do at that time?" As it is said. Among the three roots, the most important is to think about the uncertainty of death and change your mind, so you should strive for it. Third, thinking that at the time of death, nothing other than Dharma can help you. When you see that you must go to the next world in this way, at that time, no matter how loving or grieving your relatives or friends are as they surround you, not one of them can lead you away. No matter how much desirable wealth you have, you cannot take even a particle of dust with you. Even the flesh and bones that were born with you will be abandoned, so what need is there to mention others? Therefore, all the perfections of this life will abandon me, and I will certainly abandon these and go to another world. Think that this will happen today. At that time, only Dharma
