Being led by the messengers of birth and old age, merely going towards death, in the time of being alive, do not cling to the idea of staying without going to the next world and be happy about it. For example, when falling from the top of a high cliff, just as one should not be happy about the moment of flying in the air before falling to the ground. This is also quoted in the commentary of the Four Hundred: The hero of men, in the first night, where in the womb of the world he dwells and transforms, from then on, that is every day, without any delay, goes to the presence of the Lord of Death. And, in the "Words to Counteract the Four Distorted Thoughts" it also says: One who falls from the peak of a high mountain to the ground, when he is destroyed, will he experience happiness in this empty space? From the beginning of birth, constantly running towards death, in what interval can sentient beings obtain happiness? Thus it is said. These show that death is certain to come quickly. In the time of being alive, there is also no time to practice Dharma, one must contemplate death, even if one could live as long as mentioned before, there is no time to practice, because many lives have passed meaninglessly, and half of the remaining time is occupied by sleep, and many other times are also wasted meaninglessly by other distractions, and youth passes, and after reaching the stage of old age, the strength of body and mind declines, even if one wants to practice Dharma, there is no ability to accomplish it, so the opportunity to practice Dharma is very little. From the moment of entering the womb, half of it is also covered by sleep. Ten years is childhood. Twenty years is old age, also interrupted by sorrow and lamentation, suffering and displeasure, quarrels, etc. The various diseases arising from the body, hundreds and thousands of them, also interrupt the practice. Thus it is said. And, in the "Words to Counteract the Four Distorted Thoughts" it also says: These people, even if their lives are extremely long, are only a hundred years. Among them, the initial childhood and the final old age are spent meaninglessly. Sleep and diseases destroy all hope of not having time to practice Dharma. How much time is left for people living in comfort to enter death? Thus it is said. Chakawa also said: Sixty years are interrupted by eating, clothing, sleep, and diseases.

It is said that if you delay, you won't even have five years to enter the Dharma. In that case, all the perfections of this life will become mere objects of memory at the time of death, just like enjoying happiness in a dream for a moment, and then only remembering it after waking up. Since the enemy of death is inevitable and cannot be resisted, why should we be happy with the deceptions of this life? Thinking in this way, we should resolve to practice the Dharma and make many vows. As it is said in the Jataka: Alas! The afflictions of the world, Unstable dwelling, do not bring joy, The glory of the lotus, Will only become a memory. Beings dwell in such a way, How wonderful that people have no fear, The Lord of Death blocks all paths, Rejoicing and indulging without worry. The enemy who harms with old age, sickness, and death, Is powerful and cannot be resisted, Even though he exists. If we are certain to go to the dangerous realm of the next world, What mind would think to be happy in this? And as it is said in the Letter to King Kanika: The Lord of Death is merciless, Killing the talent of birth is meaningless, The act of killing is clearly coming, Which wise person indulges in carelessness? Therefore, the great hero must be patient, The arrow is merciless and does not miss, Before it is shot, Strive to accomplish your own and others' purposes. Think in this way. Second, contemplate that there is no certainty when death will occur: It is certain that death will occur from today until the age of one hundred. However, it is uncertain on which day it will occur, so like today, it is impossible to determine whether one will die or not. However, in your mind, you must take the side of death and generate the thought that you will die today. If you think that you will not die today, or that you will mostly not die, and your mind takes the side of not dying, you will keep preparing to stay in this life and will not prepare for the next life. Therefore, in the meantime, if you are seized by the Lord of Death, you will have to die with sorrow. If you prepare for death every day, then many things for the next world will be accomplished, so even if you do not die, it is good to do so. If you die, then it is especially necessary to do so. For example, if a great enemy who will cause you great harm is certain to come between this time and that time, but you do not know on which day he will come, then you must be wary of him every day, just like that. Thinking every day that you will die today
