Wisdom arises and there is no ignorance. One's own share is also the kind that can be bought. Hearing is the lamp that dispels the darkness of ignorance. Thieves and others cannot take away the supreme wealth. It is the weapon that destroys all ignorant enemies. The supreme friend who shows the methods and instructions. A friend who does not change even when impoverished. Harmless, it is the medicine for sorrow and disease. The supreme army that destroys the great army of sins. It is also the supreme of fame, glory, and treasure. Meeting with virtuous people is a supreme birth. In the assembly, it will please the wise. Thus it is said. Following hearing, practice is doing the essence. One is easily liberated from the dangerous fortress of samsara. Having faith from the depths of one's heart in the benefits of hearing as spoken. Furthermore, the appearance of a Buddha is one in a hundred, and his Dharma is the same, so with the meaning of rarity, one generates the perception of preciousness, and also, the wisdom that arises together immediately increases more and more, therefore one generates the perception of eyes, and with the eye of wisdom one sees things as they are and as many as they are, therefore one generates the perception of light, and finally it bestows the great fruit of Nirvana and Bodhi, therefore one generates the perception of great benefit, and also, from now on one obtains the cause of those two, the bliss of Shamatha and Vipassana, therefore one generates the perception of being without fault, as stated in the Bodhisattva Bhumi Sutra, one needs to listen with five perceptions, thinking is contemplating the benefits of hearing. Secondly, in the Earth-Heart Sutra it says: Listen to the Dharma with one-pointed faith and reverence, one should not slander or despise it. One should make offerings to the Dharma speaker, and generate the perception of them as being like the Buddha. As it is said, one should regard them as the Buddha, and offer them respect and gain with a lion throne and so on, abandoning disrespect, and also, in the Bodhisattva Bhumi Sutra it says: One should not listen with five thoughts towards those without afflictions and those who speak the Dharma, one should listen without arrogance, that is, listening with six ways: listening on time, respecting, serving, not being angry, following, and not finding fault. Separated from the affliction of contempt, that is, respecting the Dharma and the Dharma speaker, and not despising the two. Not thinking with five places, that is, not thinking of broken vows and.

Abandoning the thought that one will not listen because of low status, ugly appearance, coarse words, and harsh speech. It is also said in the Jataka: Sit on a very low seat, generate the splendor of taming, look with joyful eyes, like drinking the nectar of words, generate respect and focus single-mindedly, with great joy and immaculate mind, listen to the Dharma with reverence, just as a patient listens to the words of a doctor. Thus it is said. There are actually two ways of listening: abandoning the three faults of the vessel and relying on the six perceptions. The first is: if the vessel is upside down, or if it is upright but not clean, or if it is clean but has a hole in the bottom, then even if the sky rains, it will not enter, and even if it enters, it will be contaminated by being unclean, and the purpose of drinking, etc., will not be achieved, and even if it is not contaminated by being unclean, it will not stay inside, but will leak out and flow away. Similarly, even if one sits in the assembly where the Dharma is taught, one does not listen well, and even if one listens, one misunderstands or has defects in motivation, etc., and even if there are no such defects, one does not firmly remember the words and meanings that one has heard at the time of listening, but one loses them due to forgetting, etc., then hearing the Dharma will not be of great benefit, so one must be free from those faults. To counteract those three faults, the sutra says, "Listen well and keep it in mind." Moreover, in the Bodhisattva-bhumi, it is also said: As if wanting to know everything completely, be single-minded, listen attentively, focus, and think with all your mind, and then listen. Relying on the six perceptions, keeping the perception of oneself as a patient is: It is said in the Bodhicaryavatara: Even if one is afflicted by ordinary diseases, one must act according to the doctor's words, what need is there to mention being constantly afflicted by diseases of hundreds of faults such as desire? Thus it is said. Because one is always tormented by long-term, difficult-to-cure diseases that produce intense suffering—afflictions such as desire—one must recognize this. Karma pa said: If one is not actually sick, then practicing in that way will be inverted, because one has been afflicted by chronic diseases of the three poisons, and the condition is very serious, but we do not know that we are sick at all. Keeping the perception of the speaker as a doctor is: For example, wind bile, etc.
