Therefore, it is said that if this is the case, stable samadhi will not be achieved. It needs to be explained that if it is said that when samadhi, which is capable of placing the mind on a single object as one wishes, has not yet been achieved, if one analyzes multiple objects, that samadhi will not arise, therefore, before that samadhi is achieved, one should engage in settling meditation that focuses on achieving that samadhi, then we also agree. If one thinks that before achieving such samadhi, engaging in too much analytical meditation will be an obstacle to that samadhi, then it is clear that they have not understood at all the method of achieving samadhi as explained in the Great Vehicle Commentary. For example, just as a skilled goldsmith repeatedly burns gold and silver in fire and repeatedly washes them with water, so that all impurities and dirt are removed, becoming very soft and easy to work with. After that, one can freely make earrings and other ornaments as one wishes. Similarly, first, for afflictions, near afflictions, and misdeeds, etc., just as it is said in the sections on the practice of black karmic results and the faults of samsara, etc., by repeatedly practicing their faults with discriminating wisdom, with the intention of making the mind completely feel pain or weariness, just like burning gold in fire, one turns the mind away from the black side and purifies those impurities. Just as it is said in the sections on the qualities of a spiritual friend, the meaning of leisure and endowment, the qualities of the Three Jewels, white karmic results, and the benefits of bodhicitta, etc., by repeatedly practicing their qualities with discriminating wisdom, with the intention of making the mind moist or clear, just like washing gold with water, one clearly turns the mind to the white side and makes it happy, thereby moistening the mind with virtuous Dharma. In this way, whichever of shamatha and vipashyana one wants to achieve, as long as one focuses the mind on it, one can achieve it effortlessly. Therefore, such analytical meditation is the best method for achieving non-conceptual samadhi. Just as the noble Asanga said, for example, when a skilled goldsmith or a goldsmith's disciple wants to remove all the impurities and dirt from gold or silver.
