Pages 1 to 100. Pages 1 to 100. The precious Lamrim Chenmo (Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment) by the incomparable Tsongkhapa is present here. Namo Guru Manjughoshaya. (Tibetan: ན་མོ་གུ་རུ་མཉྫུ་གྷོ་ཥཱ་ཡ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: नमो गुरु मञ्जुघोषाया, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: Namo guru mañjughoṣāya, Literal Chinese meaning: Homage to Guru Manjughosha.) Whose form is created by a billion perfections and virtues, Whose speech fulfills the hopes of limitless beings, Whose mind sees all knowable things as they are, To that Shakya chief, I bow with devotion. The supreme son of that peerless teacher, Having taken upon himself the burden of all the Buddha's deeds, Manifesting in countless realms through emanations, To the invincible Manjushri, I prostrate. The mother of the Buddhas, exceedingly difficult to fathom, Who perfectly explained the intention, The ornament of Jambudvipa (Earth). Nagarjuna and Asanga, known throughout the three realms, To their feet, I bow. From the two great chariots, well-transmitted, The profound view and the path of vast conduct, Having condensed the essential points of the complete and unerring, To Marme Dze (Atisha), the holder of the treasury of instructions, I pay homage. The eye for viewing all the vast scriptures, The supreme gateway for the fortunate to proceed to liberation, By the skillful means of compassionate actions, To the teachers who illuminate, I respectfully bow. Nowadays, diligent yogis have little learning, Those with much learning are unskilled in the essential points of practice, Mostly, they look at the scriptures with a one-sided view, Lacking the power to distinguish the meaning of the scriptures with reason, Therefore, seeing that the essential points of the teachings, the supreme complete instructions, Are far from the path pleasing to the wise, I am delighted to explain this path of the great chariots. Those who are not obscured by the darkness of partisanship, Possessing the power of intellect to distinguish good from bad, And desiring to make meaningful this excellent leisure and endowment, Those fortunate ones, listen with one-pointed attention. Here, the essence of all the Buddha's teachings is condensed. The tradition of the two great chariots, Nagarjuna and Asanga. The supreme Dharma system for beings to go to the state of omniscience. The stages of practice by the three types of individuals are all completely condensed without omission. The method of leading the fortunate to the state of Buddhahood through the stages of the path to enlightenment is the Dharma that will be explained. In that regard, the scholars of glorious Nalanda consider the teacher's speech to be pure, the student's mind to be pure, and the Dharma to be explained to be pure, these are the purities.

It is desired to explain the Dharma through three ways. Later, when the teachings flourished in Vikramaśīla, the scholars there considered it important to first emphasize the greatness of the author of the Dharma, the greatness of the Dharma itself, and how to explain and listen to it. It is said that these two approaches emerged, and here we will explain according to the latter. Thus, there are four aspects to the guidance of the stages of the path to enlightenment: to demonstrate the greatness of the author in order to establish the authenticity of the Dharma's source; to demonstrate the greatness of the Dharma in order to generate respect for the instructions; how to listen to and explain the Dharma that possesses both greatnesses; and the order of how to guide disciples with the actual instructions. Firstly, the author is: this instruction is generally the instruction of the Ornament for Clear Realization composed by the venerable Maitreya, and in particular, the root text of this is the Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment, so the author of that is also the author of this. That is, the great teacher Dīpaṃkaraśrījñāna, otherwise known as the glorious Atiśa, who is widely known. His greatness has three aspects: the manner of taking birth in a family with excellent lineage, the manner of acquiring qualities on that basis, and the manner of acting for the teachings after acquiring them. The first is: from the Eighty Verses of Praise composed by the great translator Lotsawa Naktsé: In the excellent land of Zahor in the east, There is a great city there. It is Vikramanīpura. In its center is the king's capital. There is a palace that is very vast. Called Golden Banner. Its enjoyment, power, and wealth Are like those of the Chinese Tang emperor. The king of that land is Gewai Pel (Virtuous Glory). The queen is Pelmo Özer Chen (Glorious Light). The two parents had three sons. Padma'i Nying (Lotus Heart) and Dawa'i Nying (Moon Heart), And Pelgyi Nyingpo (Glorious Essence). Prince Padma'i Nyingpo Had five consorts and nine sons. The eldest son, Sönam Pel (Meritorious Glory), Is now a great scholar. He is known as Dhanaśrī. The youngest, Pelgyi Nyingpo, Is the monk Viryacandra. The middle one, Dawa'i Nyingpo, Is now the lama Jetsun. As it appears. There are two aspects to acquiring qualities: extensively learning, the manner of acquiring the qualities of scripture; and practicing accordingly, the manner of acquiring the qualities of realization. The first is: from the praise: At the age of twenty
