merely seeing it as limiting the scope of views and abandoning it. The topics discussed in those great treatises almost all seem to require analysis by individual discriminating wisdom. Moreover, if they are abandoned during practice, how can the conviction arise that they are seen as the supreme instructions? If they are not the supreme instructions, then who can find instructions more excellent than those made by their authors? Thus, if the profound and vast Sutra Pitaka, along with its commentaries, appears as instructions, then the profound Tantra Pitaka, along with the vast treatises of its commentaries, can also effortlessly appear as instructions, thereby giving rise to the conviction that they are held as the supreme instructions. Those wrong conceptions that hold them to be merely appendages to the Dharma that are not genuine instructions will be eliminated without remainder. Easily obtaining the Buddha's intention is: Although the great treatises of scripture along with commentaries are supreme instructions, for a beginner who has not fully trained, even if they engage in them without relying on the guru's oral instructions, they will not obtain the intention. Even if they can obtain it, it will depend on an extremely long time and extremely great effort. If they rely on the guru's oral instructions, they will easily realize it. This instruction will easily give certainty about the key points of the Buddha's words and treatises. The manner of this will be explained in detail in the various chapters. Great misdeeds ceasing on their own is: As explained in the Lotus Sutra and the Chapter of the Truthful One, if one does not understand that all the Buddha's teachings directly or indirectly teach the means of attaining Buddhahood, some will take some as the means of attaining Buddhahood and others as obstacles to attaining Buddhahood, thereby distinguishing between good and bad, reasonable and unreasonable, and Mahayana and Hinayana, thinking that a Bodhisattva should learn this and should not learn that. If one thus accepts and rejects, one will be abandoning the Dharma. In the Sutra Compendium of All Distinctions, it is said: Manjushri, the obscuration of the karma of abandoning the holy Dharma is slight. Manjushri, if someone thinks that some of the teachings spoken by the Tathagata are good and some are bad, that is abandoning the Dharma. Whoever abandons the Dharma, by abandoning the Dharma, is slandering the Tathagata and denigrating the Sangha. This is reasonable, this is unreasonable.

If one says "Oh," that is abandoning the Dharma. This was spoken for the sake of Bodhisattvas. If one says, "This was spoken for the sake of Hearers," that is abandoning the Dharma. If one says, "This was spoken for the sake of Solitary Buddhas," that is abandoning the Dharma. If one says, "This is not the training of Bodhisattvas," that is abandoning the Dharma. Thus it is said. The fault of abandoning the Dharma is extremely heavy, as it is said in the Samadhiraja Sutra: Whoever in this Jambudvipa, destroys all stupas, whoever abandons the sutras, the sin of that one is most excellent. Whoever kills as many Arhats as there are sands in the Ganges, the sin of that one is most excellent who abandons the sutras. Thus it is said. In general, there appear to be many doors for the arising of abandoning the Dharma, but this door shown earlier seems to be the greatest, so one should strive to avoid it. Moreover, merely gaining certainty as shown earlier will reverse it, so that misdeeds will cease on their own. That certainty should be sought from the chapter on the Truthful One and by reading the White Lotus Sutra of the Sacred Dharma extensively, and the other doors of abandoning the Dharma should be known from the Sutra on the Condensed Collection of All Dharmas. Regarding how to listen to and explain the Dharma that possesses two great qualities, there are three points: the manner of listening, the manner of explaining, and the manner of what should be done in common at the end. The first point has three parts: contemplating the benefits of hearing the Dharma, generating respect for the Dharma and the speaker of the Dharma, and the actual manner of listening. The first is: From the Collection of Hearers it says: Hearing knows all dharmas, hearing turns away from sin, hearing abandons what is meaningless, hearing obtains nirvana. And, Just as a house is well covered, if one enters a dark room, even though forms are present, one does not see them as if one had eyes. Likewise, even if a person of good family is born here, even if he is intelligent, he will not know sin and virtuous Dharma until he has heard it. Just as one sees forms with a lamp that has eyes, likewise one knows virtuous and sinful Dharma by hearing. Thus it is said. From the Jataka also: Whoever, having heard, has faith in his mind,
