Because the only one who can show everything and is free from all mistakes is the Buddha. Likewise, it is also said in the Uttaratantra: 'Because there is no one in this world more wise than the Victorious One, no one who can truly know everything with omniscience, therefore do not disturb the sutras established by the Sage himself, because destroying the reason of the Victorious One will also cause harm to the Dharma.' Therefore, the Buddha's teachings, the sutras and the precious tantras, are the essence of instruction. Even so, if one does not have a qualified commentary and the oral instructions of the holy ones, and enters the Buddha's words by one's own power, later disciples will not be able to understand the meaning. Therefore, the great chariots composed treatises of commentary and oral instructions. Therefore, if the oral instructions are pure, they must be able to give certainty to the great treatises. If no matter how much one studies the oral instructions, one cannot give certainty to the meaning of the Buddha's words and the great commentaries, or if the path shown is not in accordance with them, then it should be abandoned. Some people treat the great treatises as teachings without the key points of practice, and think that the key points of practice are separate, thus thinking that the holy Dharma itself has two kinds of Dharma: the Dharma of teaching and the Dharma of practice. Know that this hinders the generation of great respect for the stainless sutras and tantras and the stainless treatises of commentary, and treats them as objects of contempt that only analyze external knowledge without showing the inner meaning, thus accumulating the obscuration of abandoning the Dharma. Therefore, for those who desire liberation, the essence of non-deceptive instruction is the great treatises. However, due to one's own dullness and other reasons, one cannot determine that it is the essence of instruction by relying on the treatises alone, so one must rely on the oral instructions of the holy ones to seek certainty about them. One must seek oral instructions in this way, and not think that the treatises are only for analyzing external knowledge and have no essence, while the oral instructions can show the inner meaning, so they are superior. The great yogi Bodhibhadra said: 'Oral instructions entering the heart are like a small pill in the palm of the hand.'

It is not said that obtaining insight is called (key instruction), but it is said that understanding all the scriptures as key instructions is what it means. Just like Jowo Je's (Venerable Atisha's) disciple, Gompa Rinchen Lama also said: By reducing body, speech, and mind to dust on a single cushion with Atisha's key instructions, now I can understand all the scriptures as key instructions. It should be understood like this. The Venerable Rinpoche said: If, after studying a lot of Dharma, one needs to find other ways to practice the Dharma, then it is a mistake. Just like this, although one has studied a lot of Dharma for a long time, one does not know how to practice Dharma at all. When one wants to practice Dharma, one needs to find methods from other places. These are all mistakes because one has not understood what was said before. What is said here is, as it is said in the Abhidharmakosha: The Buddha's sacred Dharma has two aspects, namely the Dharma of teaching and the Dharma of realization. Just like this, there are only two kinds of Dharma, the Dharma of teaching and the Dharma of realization. The Dharma of teaching is the way to grasp the Dharma, to determine the method of practice; the Dharma of realization is to practice according to the determined method after it has been determined, so these two are cause and effect. For example, just like horse racing, first you have to point out the race track to the horse, and after pointing it out, you run there. If the indicated track is different from other places, then it will become a joke. Just like determining one thing through hearing and thinking, but practicing another thing during practice, how can one practice successfully? As it is said in the Last Chapter of the Stages of Meditation: Also, whatever is realized by the wisdom arising from hearing and thinking, should be practiced by the wisdom arising from practice, not others, just like pointing out the racetrack for horse racing and then running there. It is said like this. In this way, this key instruction, from the method of relying on a spiritual friend to the interval between tranquility and insight, completely gathers all the key points of the path of all scriptures and commentaries, and then dwells and practices on all those that need to be dwelt and practiced. Those that need to be examined and practiced are examined with their respective discriminating wisdom, and then practiced in order, so that all the scriptures can be manifested as key instructions. If it is not like this, for the part of the body of the path that is not completely complete, separated from discriminating wisdom, one practices for a lifetime, then not only will the great treatises not be manifested as key instructions, but also for these
