When contact arising from changes such as these is encountered, it is like being in extreme pain. One should recognize feeling as suffering. Because from the moment of birth, it causes suffering to the body or mind, it is the suffering of suffering, like the stabbing pain of a kidney. Moreover, this is not just feeling alone, but as before. If these two contacts do not meet, like the burning of embers, that is equanimity accompanied by defilements. Because it is connected to bad states, it is the suffering of formation. This also should not be taken as just feeling alone, but as before. This is dominated by previous karma and afflictions, and because it is connected to the seeds that give rise to future suffering and afflictions, it possesses the pervasive bad state. Thus, when a pleasant feeling arises, attachment increases; when a painful feeling arises, anger increases; and with a body belonging to a bad state that is neither pleasant nor painful, ignorance increases by clinging to impermanence as permanence, and so on. Among these, attachment causes the suffering of being born in the five realms, etc., in the future; hatred causes sorrow, etc., in this life and the suffering of bad migrations in the future; and ignorance does not abandon the suffering caused by the two, and therefore participates in them. Therefore, one should view pleasant feeling as suffering and abandon attachment. For painful feeling, one should think that this aggregate is a collection of the causes of suffering, and that something like a thorn arises from it, and thereby abandon hatred. For neutral feeling, one should view it as impermanent and of the nature of exhaustion and cessation, and thereby abandon ignorance, so that the three feelings do not become the source of the three poisons. These are explained according to the intention of the treatises of the Yogacara school and the Distinguishing the Provisional and the Definitive. For example, carrying a heavy load is like the more one has to carry the load, the less comfort there is. Similarly, the burden of the aggregates of appropriation is the same; as long as it needs to be carried, it will be suffering. Because the bad state of suffering and afflictions is firmly established in this aggregate, if there is the suffering of formation, even if there is sometimes no feeling of suffering, it immediately generates many sufferings from various avenues. Therefore, formation

The present suffering pervades all sufferings and is the root of the other two sufferings, so one should cultivate much aversion to it. Furthermore, the present feeling of pleasure that increases attachment is mostly the thought of happiness arising from the correction of suffering. Without eliminating suffering, there is no happiness in its essence. For example, when one suffers from walking too much, the thought of happiness arises from sitting down. This is because when the previous great suffering gradually ceases, happiness gradually appears, but it is not happiness in its essence. If one sits for too long, it will cause suffering again as before. If it were the cause of happiness in its essence, just as relying on the cause of suffering increases suffering, walking, sitting, lying down, eating, drinking, sunbathing, and shading should also increase happiness as the time of reliance increases. But if the time is too long, it only produces suffering. Likewise, from the moment of conception, joy, walking, sitting, standing, and lying down should be understood as separate sufferings. If a meditator examines the nature of these behaviors, if walking can pass the time and cannot stand, sit, or lie down, then he will experience the suffering of walking, and experience intensity, roughness, unbearableness, and unpleasantness, and will not have a happy thought about walking. This is what the sutra says. The same is said for the other three behaviors. Joy, however, in order to cut off the suffering of a certain behavior, new suffering arises, and thus the thought of happiness arises. Joy, when it arises, only this suffering arises, and when it ceases, only this suffering ceases. When it arises, only action arises, and when it ceases, only action ceases. This is what the sutra says. The Four Hundred Verses also say: How is the reversal of increasing pleasure seen? Likewise, there is no reversal of increasing suffering. Therefore.
