Having mastered the vast expanse of sutra and tantra, he became the chief of the doctrinal scholars and greatly cherished the three precious trainings. As an unparalleled translator who bore the burden of the precious doctrine, the perfect spiritual friend, the great bodhisattva, the renowned holy being, the venerable Pal Zangpo, accepted his earnest request. Having heard the stages of the path concerning the venerable Namkha from Gonpawa to Neu Zurpa, and from Chennga-wa; and the stages of the path concerning the venerable Sangpo from Potowa to Sharawa, and from Potowa to Dolpa. In order to make the essence of these teachings the guide of this treatise, except for the description of the common characteristics of the three types of individuals in the Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment, the rest of the words were not quoted because they were easy to understand. Instead, based on the framework of the stages of the path by the great translator and the father and son of Trolungpa, the essential points were extracted from multiple stages of the path, making the stages of the path complete, easy to grasp, and arranged in an order that does not confuse. This is the great chariot in the land of snow, a virtuous person with fearless erudition, who has truly practiced the meaning of all the great doctrinal teachings, thereby pleasing the Buddhas and their bodhisattvas. I, a monk who has heard much, a hermit, Eastern Tsongkhapa Losang Drakpa, taking the dust of the feet of the venerable Redawa and other holy lamas upon my head, completed this work in the secluded hermitage beneath the Rock Lion in the northern Rateng (Reting Monastery) holy place. The scribe was Sonam Pal Zangpo. May this act enable the precious doctrine to flourish in all directions from all aspects!
