Furthermore, it is said that the sins that are certain to be experienced by those who uphold the sacred Dharma will also be experienced in this very life. It is also said: "The deeds that lead to evil destinies, through this, will only result in a fever in the head." If there is only the result of a fever in the head, how can it be eradicated from the root? The answer is: The complete maturation of the results of sinful deeds will lead to the experience of the suffering of hell. Those who have not even experienced the slightest suffering of hell, how can it not be completely eradicated from the root? How can it be said that there is no result at all when fever in the head and so on occur? Thus. Even if the antidote to destroy the seeds of affliction is not found, but it is weakened by adverse conditions, even if other conditions are gathered, it will not produce results. This is often seen in the causes and effects of both external and internal phenomena. Therefore, even if one strives to accumulate many virtuous deeds, if one does not guard against the causes that destroy virtuous deeds, such as anger, etc., as stated before, one should strive to guard against them and diligently correct non-virtuous deeds. Even extremely powerful deeds can be completely purified, except for the ripening of past deeds. What does this mean? The answer is: When the ripening has occurred, such as in the case of the blind, it is difficult to purify with the present antidote. However, when the cause has not yet produced the result, it is easy to reverse it. Therefore, there is no fault in saying that. In the Blaze of Reasoning, it is said: If sinful deeds can be completely exhausted, why is it taught that only the ripening of past deeds is excluded? The answer is: It refers to the enjoyment of the causes and effects that have become the nature of the blind, the one-eyed, the lame, the crippled, the mute, the deaf, and so on. Why? Because the results of the deeds that have become the nature of the state of ripening cannot be completely exhausted. However, what is created by the mind in the causal state can be completely exhausted when other differences of mind are obtained, as taught in the sutras to Angulimala, King Ajatashatru, Saka, the patricide, King Ashoka, and so on. If Ajatashatru and the matricide have virtue,

Even if other minds arise, why are they born in the Avici hells without their karma being exhausted? It is to generate faith in karma and its fruits that birth in Avici and so forth is shown. It is not that all karmas are exhausted without any remainder. Like bouncing back from striking a silk balloon, one is born there and liberated. One is not even touched by the chains of hellfire and so forth. In this way, it is also established that sins are completely eradicated from the root, and karma is not without fruit. So it is said. It is uncertain for some particular individuals. For example, King Dawa (དཔའ་བས་, Brave) regretted killing Penchin Metok Dren (བྱིན་གྱིས་མེ་ཏོག་ཟླ་མཛེས་, Given Lotus Moon), built stupas and made very extensive offerings, confessed sins three times a day for fifty-five trillion years, and strictly observed the precepts, but after death was still born in Avici and experienced endless suffering such as blindness for twelve trillion kalpas, as stated in the Samadhiraja Sutra. Even so, confession is not meaningless, because if one does not confess, one will experience even greater and longer suffering. Even if confession can completely purify the remaining karma, there is a great difference between the purity that is not initially tainted by sin and the purity after confession. For example, in the Bodhisattvabhumi, it is said that if a root downfall occurs, even if one can restore it by taking the Bodhisattva vows, it is impossible to attain the first bhumi in that lifetime. The Sutra of Condensed Differentiation also says: "Bhagavan, if someone, under the influence of evil friends, abandons the Dharma and does such a thing, Bhagavan, how will he be liberated at that time?" After this question, the Bhagavan said to Manjushri, who had become a youth: "Manjushri, if for seven years, once a day, three times a day, one confesses sins as sins, then one will be purified, and after that, one will attain forbearance in at least ten kalpas." Thus, even if sins are purified, it is said that even if it is as quick as possible, it takes ten kalpas to attain forbearance. Therefore, the meaning of complete purification is that the non-desirable results are no longer produced, that is complete purification.

Of. Generating realizations of the path and so on takes a very long time, so one should strive not to be tainted from the beginning. Therefore, the noble ones said that even for the sake of life, they would not knowingly commit even the slightest sin. If purification through confession and not having occurred in the first place were no different, then there would be no need to do so. It also appears in the world that although damage to limbs and so on can be repaired afterwards, it is not the same as not having been damaged in the first place. Therefore, after striving, it is said in the Compendium: "Having committed sins and not done good deeds, turning away from the Dharma and obtaining non-Dharma, a person with sinful deeds is afraid of death, like a broken boat sinking in a great river. Having done good deeds and not committed sins, practicing the Dharma according to the ways of the holy ones, then he will never be afraid of death, like a stable boat going to the other shore." As it is said, do not do as the former, but strive to do as the latter. Moreover, even if one speaks many reasonable words, if one indulges in carelessness, it is of little meaning. Even if one knows nothing from a small amount of Dharma, it is of great meaning if one cultivates what one knows by accepting and rejecting. As it is said in the Compendium: "Even if one speaks many reasonable words, a careless and impure person will not do so. Just as a shepherd counts the cattle of others, these people will not obtain the fruit of a renunciate. Even if one speaks few reasonable words, following the Dharma and practicing the Dharma, abandoning desire, hatred, and delusion, these people will obtain the fruit of a renunciate. A monk delights in mindfulness and regards carelessness as fear, leading himself out of the lower realms, like an elephant emerging from a mud puddle. A monk delights in mindfulness and regards carelessness as fear, shaking off all sins, like the wind blowing leaves from a tree." Thus. As it is said in the Friendly Letter: "If you wish to attain the bliss of gods and liberation, then cultivate right view. Even if a person with wrong view performs good deeds, all the results will be unpleasant." As it is said, properly observing the two aspects of dependent arising, namely cause and effect, is the indispensable basis for accomplishing all vehicles and all the aims of individuals. As exemplified by what has been said before, mindfulness and discernment, and so on.
