Regarding the defeat of impure conduct, it is said that for cognition, confusion and non-confusion are similar. In the commentary on the Abhidharmakośa, it says: If one approaches another's wife with the cognition that she is one's own, it will not become a path of action; if one thinks that another's wife belongs to someone else, and then approaches her, then it is said that there are two cases, becoming and not becoming. Affliction is: any of the three poisons. Motivation is: wanting to act through impure conduct. Application is: In the Compendium of Topics, it is said that causing others to commit adultery will also cause the participant to incur the sin of adultery. However, in the root and commentary of the Abhidharmakośa, it is said that for such a situation, there is no actual path of action. Perhaps it is considering that the former is not an actual sin, and needs to be examined. The ultimate is: the union of the two. The basis of lying is: seeing, hearing, distinguishing, and knowing, and the four opposites of these. The object to be expressed is the other party understanding the meaning. Regarding intention, there are three, among which cognition is: transforming what is seen into unseen, or transforming what is unseen into seen, and so on. Affliction is: three. Motivation is: wanting to lie after changing cognition. Application is: accepting by speaking or not speaking, or expressing by changing the posture of the body. It is said that whether lying for one's own or others' benefit is the same. Here it is said that if one entrusts lying, divisive speech, and harsh speech, these three will also become these three. In the root and commentary of the Abhidharmakośa, it is said that entrusting all four types of speech will become a path of action. In the Vinaya, it is said that in order to generate these ultimate downfalls, one must speak oneself. The ultimate is: the other party understanding. If it is said in the commentary of the Abhidharmakośa that if one does not understand, it is just empty talk. This is the same for divisive speech and harsh speech. The basis of divisive speech is: harmonious and disharmonious beings. Regarding intention, there are three, among which cognition and affliction are the same as before. Motivation is: wanting to divide harmonious beings, and wanting disharmonious beings to remain disharmonious. Application is: speaking with true or untrue words, saying pleasant or unpleasant content, and speaking for one's own or others' benefit. The ultimate is: In the Compendium of Topics, it says:

Therefore, it should be recognized through differentiation. It is said, understand the words that differentiate. The basis of harsh speech is: sentient beings who are the basis for generating afflictive minds from all aspects. Regarding intention, perception and affliction are as before. Motivation is: wanting to speak harsh words. Application is: whether true or not, fabricating from faults of lineage or body, or starting from faults of discipline or conduct, speaking unpleasant words. Completion is: from the collection, it is said in the Compendium on the Abhidharma: the limit is speaking harsh words to that. The meaning of what is said is that it is necessary to understand the object to whom it is said, as explained in the commentary on the Abhidharmakosha. The basis of idle talk is: meanings that have no meaning. Regarding intention, there are three, perception is: perceiving it there. It is only said like that, but here it is speaking with perceiving the meaning that one wants to say itself, because this does not need an object to be understood. Affliction is: any of the three. Motivation is: wanting to speak unrelated accidental things. Application is: starting to speak idle talk. Completion is: having finished speaking idle talk. That also has seven bases, namely speaking of fighting, exposing faults, arguing, gambling, etc., and reciting and chanting with a mind that likes non-Buddhist scriptures or Brahmanical secret mantras, etc., and pitiful speech, such as groaning, etc., and speaking of laughing, caressing, rejoicing, and enjoying, etc., and speaking of chaotic talk such as kings and ministers and countries (place names) and thieves, and speaking like being drunk and insane, and speaking with wrong livelihood. Speaking of unrelated and non-Dharmic and meaningless things is speaking of things that are unrelated before and after and showing all afflictions, and speaking when watching jokes and songs, etc., and theater performers, etc. Regarding whether the first three verbal actions are considered idle talk, there are two opinions, but here it is said in accordance with the former. The basis of covetousness is: the wealth and belongings of others. Regarding intention, there are three, perception is: perceiving it there in that basis. Affliction is: any of the three. Motivation is: wanting to take it as one's own. Application is

One strives for the meaning of that thought. The ultimate is the certainty that it will be mine. It is said, "May wealth and other things become mine." To perfect greed, five qualities are needed: having a mind that is particularly attached to one's own possessions; having a greedy mind that desires to accumulate possessions; having a clinging mind that thoroughly contemplates and savors the good qualities of others' wealth and so on; having a miserly mind that wishes what belongs to others to become one's own; and having an overwhelming mind that is shameless because of greed and does not know how to be liberated from faults. If any of these five minds is incomplete, the characteristic of greed is not perfected. In the ten non-virtuous actions, the application is explained in the Yogacarabhumi. The way in which incomplete greed arises is as follows: "Alas, if that master of the house were to become my servant and act as I wish, wouldn't that be wonderful?" Similarly, thinking about his children, wife, etc., and the necessities of the body such as food. "Alas, if others knew that I was content with little, very secluded, diligent, learned, and generous, wouldn't that be wonderful?" "If I were honored by kings, merchants, and the four assemblies, and received food, clothing, etc., wouldn't that be wonderful?" "Alas, may I be born as a god in the next life and enjoy its five desirable qualities, and may I be born as a Paranirmitavasavartin from the worlds of Mahesvara and Vishnu." Generating such desires, and generating desires for the possessions enjoyed in common with Brahma, such as parents, children, wife, and servants, is also greed. The basis, perception, and affliction of harmful intent are like harsh words. The intention is to desire beating and so on, such as killing, binding, and the decline of others' or one's own possessions, "Wouldn't that be wonderful?" The application is to apply oneself to that thought. The ultimate is to decide or resolve to beat and so on. This is also complete if all five are present, and incomplete if not all are present, that is, in the cause of harm, in accordance with it.
