There are fourteen kotis of nayutas, eighty kotis of nayutas for the teachings of the Teacher Light Protector, and ninety-nine kotis of nayutas for the teachings of our Teacher. Due to the decline of rituals, livelihood, and discipline, they will be born as nagas or will be born as such. Even after our Teacher's passing into nirvana, the four assemblies who engage in sinful deeds will be born as nagas due to the decline of discipline. However, even if their actions are impure, due to the unwavering faith in the teachings, they will die from the naga realm and be reborn as gods and humans. In this Fortunate Aeon, those who attain enlightenment, except for those who enter the Mahayana, will all attain nirvana. Therefore, even the smallest actions of white and black karma follow like a shadow, inevitably bringing great happiness and suffering. One must be firm in this conviction and strive to accomplish even the smallest virtuous deeds, and strive to abandon even the smallest sins and transgressions. As it is said in the Compendium: When birds dwell in the sky, their shadows go along with them. Good deeds and bad deeds follow after beings go. Just as those with little provisions for the road, go on the road suffering hardships, so too, beings who have not done good deeds go to the lower realms. Just as those who have accumulated many provisions for the road, go on the road in comfort, so too, beings who have done good deeds go to the happy realms. It is also said: Even the smallest sin should not be despised, thinking it is harmless. By accumulating drops of water, even a large vessel will gradually become full. It is also said: Do not think that having done a small sin, it will not come back in the future. By falling drops of water, a large vessel becomes full. Similarly, even a little accumulated sin will fill a child with sin. Do not think that having done a small good deed, it will not come back in the future. Just as by falling drops of water, a large vase becomes full, so too, even a little accumulated virtue will fill the steadfast one with merit. It is also said, in the Jataka tales: By becoming accustomed to virtuous and non-virtuous actions, people become familiar with them. Even if one does not deliberately strive, in future lives one will act as if in a dream. If one does not diligently practice generosity and discipline, etc.,

For those with virtues, great power, and abundant wealth, no one will attain happiness in the next life. Even if one's lineage is low, but one is not attached to sin, and is endowed with virtues such as diligently giving and upholding moral conduct, like a river filling the ocean in summer, happiness will surely increase in the next life. From virtuous and non-virtuous actions, the arising of happiness and suffering in the next world is extremely certain. Therefore, abandon evil and diligently engage in virtuous deeds. Those without faith act as they please. Thus it is. Unperformed actions do not meet: If one does not accumulate actions that become the cause of experiencing happiness and suffering, then one will never experience the result of that action—happiness and suffering. Even those who enjoy the results of the countless merits accumulated by the Buddha must accumulate a portion of those causes, though not all of them. Performed actions are not in vain: Virtuous and non-virtuous actions that have been done will produce pleasant and unpleasant results. In particular, in the "Praise of Excellence," it is said: "The Brahmins say that virtue and non-virtue transfer like giving and receiving. You say that performed actions are not in vain, and unperformed actions do not meet." Furthermore, in the "King of Samadhi Sutra," it is also said: "Even if done, it will not be touched, and what is done by others will not be felt." Moreover, in the "Vinaya Pitaka," it is also said: "Actions, even after hundreds of thousands of eons, will not be in vain; once the conditions are met, for sentient beings, they will transform into results." Thus it is proclaimed. Second, to think separately, divided into two: mainly explaining the ten paths of action, and establishing the certainty of actions and their results. First, having thus ascertained the causes and effects of happiness and suffering, and that actions increase greatly, unperformed actions do not meet, and performed actions are not in vain, how should one first generate certainty regarding the nature of actions and their results, and then adopt and abandon them? In general, the gateways to engaging in virtuous and non-virtuous conduct are determined to be three doors. Although all the virtuous and non-virtuous actions of the three doors are not completely included in the ten paths of action, the outline or rough parts of virtue and non-virtue, that is, the extremely serious basis of faults, are summarized by the Blessed One Buddha into the ten black paths of action, and abandoning these is of great significance.
