It rests on that place. Apart from that, nothing happens suddenly. Therefore, at this time, one must be skilled in distinguishing between good and non-good, along with their results, and properly adopt and abandon, taking this as practice. If one does not properly adopt and abandon after long considering the two karmas and their results, the cause of falling into the lower realms cannot be reversed. Even if one fears the lower realms, one will not be liberated from that fear. Therefore, to be saved from the lower realms at the time of results, one must correct engaging in non-virtuous thoughts at the time of causes. And that depends on gaining faith in karma and its results. Secondly, to generate faith, which is the root of all happiness and well-being, there are three aspects: thinking about karma and its results in general, thinking about them specifically, and how to adopt and abandon after thinking. The first has two parts: the actual way of thinking in general, and thinking separately. The first has four parts, first is the principle of the certainty of karma: Whether it is an ordinary person or an arya, happiness with the nature of feeling calm, even the happiness that arises when a cool breeze arises for beings born in hell, all of that arises from accumulating virtuous actions in the past. There is no place where happiness arises from non-virtuous actions. Suffering with the nature of feeling tormented, even all that arises in the stream of an arhat, arises from accumulating non-virtuous actions in the past. There is no place where suffering arises from virtuous actions. The Precious Garland says: "From non-virtue comes all suffering, Likewise, all the lower realms, From virtue comes all the happy realms, And happiness in all lives." Therefore, happiness and suffering do not arise from no cause, nor do they arise from dissimilar causes such as the chief and the powerful, but from the general karma of good and non-good come general happiness and suffering, and the various differences of happiness and suffering also arise separately from the various differences of the two karmas without the slightest confusion. Gaining certainty in this certainty or infallibility of karma and its results is called the correct view of all Buddhists, praised as the foundation of all white dharmas. The increase of karma is great: Even from a small virtuous action, a very great result of happiness arises, and even from a small non-virtuous action, a result of suffering arises.

Because very large differences arise, the internal cause and effect development is not like the external cause and effect. As stated in the "Collection of Verses": Even a small sin can cause great fear and complete destruction in the next life, just like poison entering the body. Even a small merit can lead to great happiness in the next life, and can accomplish great meaning, just like the abundant ripening of grains. And so on. That a small action produces a great result can also be established by recounting past experiences. As stated in the Vinaya-vastu: The frog crushed by the shepherd Gawa and his stick, as well as the five hundred geese, fish, turtles, and sea turtles, five hundred hungry ghosts, the farmer, and the experiences of five hundred cows, and the experiences of the golden deity, golden staff, and elephant keeper that appear in the Wise and Foolish Sutra, etc. These should all be determined from the Vinaya, the Wise and Foolish Sutra, and the Hundred Karmas Sutra, etc. Furthermore, regarding the four: discipline, ritual, livelihood, and view, if the latter is not lost, but the first three are not completely purified and perfected, and only partially lost, then these people are said to be reborn as nagas. As stated in the "Sutra Requested by the Naga King of the Sea": "Bhagavan, when I was dwelling in the great ocean at the beginning of the kalpa, and when the Tathagata Arhat Samyaksambuddha appeared in the world, the nagas, naga sons, and naga daughters in the great ocean became few, and I also became few in retinue. Bhagavan, now the nagas, naga sons, and naga daughters in the great ocean are so numerous that they cannot be counted. Bhagavan, what is the cause and condition for this?" The Bhagavan replied: "Naga King, those who have gone forth in the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya, but have not completely perfected pure discipline, and whose ritual is lost, livelihood is lost, and discipline is lost, but whose view is upright, these beings will not be reborn in the hells, but will be reborn in the places of nagas after death." Thus it is said. That is to say, in the teachings of the teacher Krakucchanda Buddha, there are ninety-eight kotis of householders and renunciates, and in the teachings of the teacher Kanakamuni Buddha.
