These ten offerings are the complete offering to the Three Jewels. When making these offerings, even if a small offering is made to any of the Three Jewels, the thought that immeasurable results will arise is sixfold: thinking that it is an unsurpassed field of merit; thinking that it is an unsurpassed benefactor; thinking that it is the most excellent of all sentient beings; thinking that it is as rare as the udumbara flower; thinking that it is unique because only one appears in the three thousand great thousand worlds; and thinking that it is the basis of all worldly and transmundane perfections, one makes offerings. These are written as they appear in the Bodhisattva-bhumi. At ordinary times, one should do as much of these as possible, and on auspicious days and festivals, one should make good offerings according to one's ability. Furthermore, since one needs to eat and drink regularly, at that time, even if one does not interrupt the offering with the essence of those foods, one can complete many accumulations with little effort, so even with the essence of what one enjoys, up to and including water, one should offer from the bottom of one's heart. That should not be like rotten vegetables and yellowed leaves, but one should start with the best. The sayings of Sharawa say that it is not acceptable to offer the essence of tea as if one were dusting. For example, if one were to plant seeds in a very fertile field, it would be intolerable to leave them unplanted and just piled up. For this sacred field, which is the source of all happiness in this life and the next, it is sufficient to continuously plant seeds of happiness in all four seasons, and to plow the field of merit with the plow of faith. As the sutra says, it would be a great pity if one did not do so. Therefore, in the "Praise of the Praiseworthy," it says: Fields like you, Do not exist in the three realms, You are the most excellent of the places of giving, You are the pure one who makes the rows clean. Just as the sky has no end, How are the benefits and harms to you, Their ripening has no end. It is said like this. This supreme field does not even have the appearance of an ordinary field. We are not doing well, so we should strive to offer to the Three Jewels at all times.

By doing so, due to the power of accumulating merit in a pure field, the power of intelligence will increase more and more in the stages of the path. When listening, one can grasp the words; when thinking, one can understand the meaning; when meditating, it will arise in the continuum. When the power of intelligence is very weak, relying on the power of the field is the instruction. Just as the glorious Makhol said, "Composing poetry has great fortune, relying on you, my intelligence, like a river in summer, even the small will greatly increase." It's like that. Offering should not be attached to objects, but to one's own faith, as it is said. If one has faith, even a mandala, water, and offerings not conceived by the mind are sufficient as offerings. If there are no complications, do it that way. If one cannot give even though one has it, saying, "I have no merit, I am very poor, I have no other offering wealth," it is like what Poto said, "Putting a little mugwort in a dirty ashtray and saying, 'Sandalwood, camphor, perfume.' It's like a blind man deceiving a sighted person." Puchungwa said, "I first offered pungent mugwort, then I had the opportunity to offer a sweet four-mixture drink, and now I offer fragrant agarwood and duruka, etc." Like that, if one despises small offerings and does not offer them, one will become such a poor person. If one starts diligently from small things, it will get better and better, so one should learn from his behavior. It is said that he once mixed incense with twenty-two ounces of gold. Those great Bodhisattvas who have the power to control wealth emanate hundreds of thousands of bodies, and each body emanates hundreds and thousands of arms, etc., Going to all the pure lands, making offerings to the Buddhas for countless eons. Those who are content with a little merit that seems like virtue, saying, "I do not expect such enlightenment," are just chattering with very little knowledge of Dharma history. Therefore, in the Cloud of Jewels Sutra, it says, "One should listen to the great offerings and services mentioned in the sutras, and dedicate them from the bottom of one's heart with supreme intention to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas." One should do as it says. Remembering other beings with compassion, and also rejoicing in this way for other beings is: other sentient beings.
