And also because it exists below. Thus it is said. In that way, the cause of being born in those places, as will be explained below, is very easy to occur, so many are accumulated every single day. And what has been accumulated before is still immeasurable, so it is not appropriate to stay at ease, but one should think about those and be afraid. Because between those and us, there is only the cessation of the movement of breath. As it is said in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: Having done the deeds of hell, why do you remain so comfortable here? And also in the Suhrllekha: Those who are separated by the time of a breath of a sinful person, having heard of the immeasurable suffering of hell, in many ways, what is it that does not fear, the nature of a vajra? Seeing and hearing the painted hell, and remembering, reciting, and making images, will also generate fear, what need is there to mention those who experience the unbearable ripening? Thus it is said. Among the sufferings of samsara, the suffering of the lower realms is difficult to bear, and among them, the suffering of hell is unbearable. The suffering of being pierced continuously by three hundred sharp spears in a single day cannot even be compared to a fraction of the small suffering of hell. Among the hells, the suffering of Avici is the greatest. As it is said in the Suhrllekha: Just as among all pleasures, the one who has exhausted craving experiences happiness, similarly among all sufferings, the suffering of Avici hell is the most unbearable. Here, the suffering of being fiercely struck by three hundred short spears in a single day, cannot even slightly compare to the small suffering of hell, not even a shadow, let alone a part. Thus it is said. The cause of generating such suffering, know that it is only the misdeeds of your own three doors. One should strive with whatever ability one has to avoid even the smallest misdeed. As it is said in that very text: The seeds of these non-virtuous fruits are the misdeeds of your body, speech, and mind, in whatever way, strive with your own ability so that not even a speck of it exists! Thus it is said. Thinking about the suffering of animals: Animals, the strong kill the weak, and the possessions of gods and humans.

Now, having become without autonomy, being subject to others, they are killed, beaten, and harmed. Living harmoniously with gods and humans, there is no other dwelling, as stated in the Sutra of the Earth Store. In the commentary on the Abhidharmakosha, it is said: Animals are those beings who live on land, in water, and in the sky. The root of their dwelling is the great ocean, and the others are derived from there. Thus it is said. In the Letter to a Friend, it is also said: Even in the birthplace of animals, there are killings, bindings, beatings, and various sufferings. For those who have abandoned the virtue of tranquility, they devour each other, which is extremely terrible. Some die for the sake of pearls, wool, bones, meat, and leather. Other beings, without autonomy, are driven to labor by being struck with feet, hands, whips, and hooks. Thus it is said. Among them, the first verse speaks of general suffering, and the second speaks of particular suffering. The word "etc." in "beatings, etc." includes driving to labor and piercing the nose, etc. This refers to the situation where humans and non-humans kill beings. Devouring each other refers to the harm among animals of the same kind. The virtue of tranquility refers to the virtue of attaining Nirvana. Abandoning it indicates that they are very foolish and unsuitable as vessels for the path. The five from being driven to labor by being kicked to being driven to labor by being pierced with hooks refer respectively to horses, buffaloes, donkeys, elephants, and cattle, etc. These are as stated in the commentary on the Letter to a Friend. Furthermore, there are those who are born in darkness and water, grow old and die there, are exhausted by heavy burdens, plow, shear wool, are driven, and are tormented by various different ways of killing. Thinking of the situations where they are killed, suffer from hunger and thirst, are tormented by sun and rain, and are oppressed by hunters from many sides, they always live in fear and suffer, one should feel disgusted and disheartened. The length of life. In the Abhidharmakosha, it is said: Among animals, the longest life is a kalpa. That is to say, those with long lives can live for a kalpa, while those with short lives are uncertain. Thinking about the suffering of pretas: Those who are excessively stingy are reborn as pretas. They suffer from hunger and thirst, and their skin, flesh, and blood are all dried up.
