Previously, also, by taking turns engaging in mindfulness, whenever one enters autonomously and abides harmoniously, if one does not grasp at this as self, one will fall into a precipice and become subject to the control of others. After that, who will awaken one? Like that, from what is said in the "Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life," take out each sentence one by one and do it as if engaging in mindfulness. Like that, considering the ultimate meaning to be important, similarly, considering the temporary meaning, in order to obtain the body, enjoyment, and retinue that are complete with higher realms, giving, moral discipline, patience, and so forth, also contemplate the ways in which one can easily accomplish them by relying on this basis. Like that, considering the meaning of higher realms and definite goodness to be important, if one does not strive day and night for the causes of the two, but wastes time, it is like returning empty-handed from the Isle of Jewels, and in the future, one will also be impoverished of happiness, and one will not obtain a leisure base. If one does not obtain that, suffering will arise continuously, thinking that there is nothing more deceived than that. The noble hero said: "Whoever is rich in virtue, having obtained it through countless eons, here, out of ignorance, does not accumulate even a little bit of merit, those ones in the next world will enter an unbearable house of sorrow, like a merchant who went to the Isle of Jewels but returned home empty-handed. Without the path of the ten virtuous actions, one will not obtain it again in the future. Without obtaining a human body, how can there be happiness? It is only suffering. Therefore, there is no deception greater than that, nor is there ignorance greater than that." As it is said. Having thought like that, generate a great desire to take the essence. As it is said in the "Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life": "Having given this body wages, now let it accomplish its own benefit. Do not give it everything for things that are of no benefit." And, "Relying on the boat of the human body, cross over the great river of suffering. This boat is difficult to obtain in the future, so do not sleep foolishly at this time." As it is said. In the collection of teachings of Potowa, it is also said: "The worm rides on the unicorn making prostrations, eating the fish and mushrooms in the river." Having thought like that, generate a desire to take the essence. Third, contemplating how extremely difficult it is to obtain, such leisure, in the Root of the Vinaya, it says: "To die and transmigrate from the lower realms and be born there is like the dust of the great earth, and to be born from there into the higher realms is like the dust on a fingernail."

It is like the dust taken from the tip of a fingernail. To die from the two good realms and fall into the evil realms is like the great earth; to be born into the good realms from there is said to be like the dust taken from the tip of a fingernail. Therefore, it is difficult to obtain (a good rebirth) from both the good and evil realms. Just that much, you might think, why is it so difficult to obtain? The Four Hundred Verses says: "For the most part, people hold to what is not the Dharma. Therefore, ordinary people mostly go to the evil realms." As it is said, even people in the good realms, such as humans, mostly hold to what is not the Dharma, that is, they hold to the ten non-virtues, and therefore they will fall into the evil realms. Furthermore, just a moment of anger towards a Bodhisattva requires one to remain in hell for countless eons. What need is there to mention that the sins accumulated in countless lifetimes, whose fruits have not yet ripened and have not been destroyed by the antidote, exist in one's own mindstream, causing one to remain in the evil realms for countless eons? Even so, if one can completely purify the causes of the evil realms accumulated in the past and close the door to newly created evil deeds, then obtaining a good rebirth is not difficult, but such people are very rare. If one does not do so, one will fall into the evil realms, and once one falls into the evil realms, one will not do good, but will constantly do evil, so that in countless eons, one will not even hear the name of the good realms, so it is difficult to obtain. As it is said in the Bodhicharyavatara: "By deeds such as these of mine, even the human body will not be obtained. If this human body is not obtained, there is only evil, what good is there? Even if there is a time to practice virtue, but I have not done virtuous deeds, constantly suffering the torments of the evil realms, what is there to do then? Virtuous deeds not practiced, sins accumulated, difficult to encounter for hundreds of thousands of millions of eons, even after hundreds of thousands of millions of eons, the name of the good realms will not be heard. Therefore, the Bhagavan declared truthfully, like a blind turtle's neck entering the yoke hole, the human body is extremely difficult to obtain. A sin committed in a single moment causes one to fall into hell for countless eons, what need is there to mention the sins accumulated in beginningless samsara, how can one not suffer the evil realms?" Therefore, the Bhagavan said that just as a blind turtle's neck enters the yoke hole, the human body is extremely difficult to obtain. A sin committed in a single moment can cause one to remain in hell for countless eons, what need is there to mention the sins accumulated in beginningless samsara, how can one not suffer the evil realms? It is for this reason. If one thinks that while experiencing the suffering of the evil realms, the past evil deeds will be exhausted, and then one can be reborn in the good realms again, so liberation is not difficult.
