Therefore, the conceptualization of observing will never revert, and the realization of selflessness will never occur because of the absence of the light of wisdom. If, like this, the fire of knowing reality as it is arises from correctly individual observation, it will burn the wood of observation like fire produced by rubbing wood, as the Blessed One said. Thus it is. Otherwise, it is also impossible for the path of the uncontaminated to arise from the path of the contaminated. Therefore, ordinary beings will not be able to attain the fruit of the noble ones because the two, cause and effect, are different. Similarly, from a white seed, a blue sprout grows, from fire, smoke arises, and from a woman, a man is born, and so on. Limitless kinds of different forms of cause and effect appear. The non-conceptual wisdom of the noble ones is the direct realization of the meaning of selflessness, which is empty of the objects of the two kinds of grasping. To generate that, from now on, one must meditate by individually analyzing the objects grasped as self and realizing their non-existence. Therefore, although it is conceptualization, it is a cause that is very much in accordance with non-conceptual wisdom, as it says in the Samadhiraja Sutra: "If one individually observes the selflessness of phenomena," and so on, as quoted before. Therefore, even in the last part of the Stages of Meditation, it says: "Even though it is the nature of conceptualization, since it is the nature of proper attention, non-conceptual wisdom will arise, therefore, since one desires that wisdom, one should rely on it." Thus it was said. If someone thinks that the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra says that if one practices thinking that form and so on are emptiness and selflessness, that is practicing with signs, therefore, it is unreasonable to individually observe emptiness. Then, these refer to grasping emptiness as truly existent, not just to the mere thought of "it is emptiness," which has been explained many times before. If it were not so, then in those sutras it says that a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, and through meditating on the Perfection of Wisdom, one should closely examine in this way and definitely think in this way: What is the Perfection of Wisdom? Whose is this Perfection of Wisdom? What dharma is non-existent and unobtainable?

If it is said, "Is this investigation the Prajnaparamita?" If one investigates closely in this way, and thinks definitively in this way, this is the teaching to investigate when practicing the Prajnaparamita. In the Heart Sutra, when asked how to practice the profound Prajnaparamita, the answer is: "The five aggregates should also be truly viewed as emptiness." In the Compilation Sutra, it is also said: "When conditioned and unconditioned dharmas, as well as black and white dharmas, are analyzed by wisdom and not even a speck of dust is seen, then the world calls it the Prajnaparamita." This means that if one investigates all dharmas with wisdom and sees not even a speck of dust, then it can be called the Prajnaparamita. Like this, since it has already been said that it is necessary to separately investigate various things, how can it not be contradictory? If one does not think in this way, then what reason is there for not investigating all dharmas? If, like the Hwashang, one thinks that any thought binds one to samsara, then one must also think that all things, such as "practicing the key point of non-thought," also cause bondage. The refutation of this has already been said many times before. Therefore, not grasping these things as true is the meaning of the scriptures. If one wants to stop the thought of grasping at truth, for example, when one mistakes a rope for a snake and generates suffering, it is because one has ascertained that there is no snake as that thought perceives it, and thus one is able to eliminate that illusion. There is no other way; one must ascertain through correct reasoning that the object grasped as true is non-existent, and become familiar with its meaning. One cannot stop it merely by pulling back the mind that grasps at truth. Furthermore, one must think that grasping at truth is an illusion, because if it is not an illusion, there is no need to stop it. Even if one thinks that that thought is an illusion, if one does not know that the object it grasps is non-existent, how does one know that it is an illusion? Whether a thought is an illusion or not depends entirely on whether the object it grasps exists or not. The non-existence of the object grasped by grasping at truth cannot be established merely by assertion; therefore, one needs to rely on the collection of pure scriptures and reasoning that prove it. After doing this, one establishes the lack of truth, and then abides in not thinking of truth; this is what we desire. Therefore, the wisdom of separate investigation
