For the meditator on emptiness, is the meaning of emptiness and selflessness manifest or hidden? If it is the former, then that person will become an Arya, because they directly realize the meaning of selflessness. If you say that even if one directly realizes the meaning of selflessness, it does not contradict being an ordinary person, then we can also say that even if the meaning of selflessness becomes hidden for a person, it does not contradict being an Arya, because everything is the same. Furthermore, if such a person directly realizes suchness, but does not recognize that their object is the meaning of suchness, and needs someone else to prove suchness to them with scriptural evidence, it is a matter for the laughter of the wise, because the student has already established it directly, but the teacher wants to prove it through inference. Therefore, such words should not be spoken in front of those who understand reason. Even if the meaning of suchness is directly established, one cannot say that it should be proven by nominal reasons. The Lord of Reasoning said: "That is an extremely foolish meaning, because it is known as a cowherd girl." This means that if the meaning is already established, but one still establishes reasons like one would for a cowherd who knows how to establish names, that is foolish. If such a fool also wants to directly realize suchness, then please tell me, what kind of fool is there who has not realized suchness? Even if it is admitted to be suchness, just as a white yak cannot be the definition of a yak, merely seeing it directly is not sufficient to be the definition of establishing suchness, and it also contradicts one's own commitments, so saying that one should prove it with nominal terms is clearly a poverty of words and reason, so I will not elaborate. If, for the meditator on emptiness, the meaning of the selflessness of emptiness to be meditated upon is hidden, then wanting to grasp the hidden meaning with non-conceptual wisdom is a laughable matter. In short, if the mind of an ordinary person meditating on emptiness does not focus on the object of selflessness, it contradicts meditating on emptiness, and if it does focus on that object, then that object must be one of either manifest or hidden.

Therefore, if selflessness is directly realized, one becomes a noble being. If it must be held that the meaning of selflessness is hidden to ordinary beings, then in that case, the meaning of selflessness is understood through the mode of a generic image, thus contradicting non-conceptualization. Furthermore, the great supreme dharma of the path of union also holds that the meaning of selflessness is understood through the mode of a generic image. Now, it is extremely contradictory to hold that the mind of a beginner meditating on emptiness is non-conceptual. If the meaning of selflessness is non-conceptual, then it is easier to achieve non-mistakenness, and yoga will manifest, because the meaning of selflessness is non-conceptual and non-mistaken wisdom. Therefore, without finding the correct view that refutes the object of self-grasping with reason, merely by stopping the mind that clings to the two selves, etc., one wishes to meditate on the meaning of selflessness, and ordinary beings wish to meditate with the non-conceptual wisdom of selflessness, which is completely straying from the path of scripture and reason. The second way to refute other's views is: Some say that without finding the view of emptiness of selflessness, merely abiding in a state of non-conceptualization is not considered meditating on emptiness, and we also agree that the former is unreasonable. However, once the definitive meaning of selflessness is found, then all the non-conceptual states that the person abides in are meditating on emptiness. This statement is unreasonable. Because that person has found the view of definitive meaning, all the non-conceptual states that he meditates on will become meditating on the meaning determined by the view of definitive meaning. Then, please tell me the reason why such a person's meditation on bodhicitta will not become meditating on the view of definitive meaning? If it is thought that meditating on bodhicitta is the practice of a person who has found the view of definitive meaning, but at the time of practice, that view is not remembered, nor is it practiced by abiding on that view, then, if that person, although he has found the view of definitive meaning, remembers that view at the time of practice and practices by abiding on the view, then let it be admitted that this is meditating on emptiness. But how can all the non-conceptual states that he abides in become increasing the view? Therefore, even if the view is found, it must still be determined by the previous view at the time of cultivation.
