It distinguishes by as many as there are objects of the wise, objects of the learned, and objects of purifying afflictions. It thoroughly distinguishes by what exists as it is. When the wise attention with conceptualization apprehends the sign, it is complete conceptualization. When it correctly conceptualizes, it is complete analysis. Thus it is said. Also, in the Compendium of Topics, it is said that there are four paths of insight. In the instructions on the Perfection of Wisdom, the identification of these is also explained as in the Hearer's Ground. Also, the Sutra Explaining the Thought states regarding the three aspects: "Blessed One, how many aspects are there of insight? Maitreya, there are three aspects: arising from the sign, arising from thorough investigation, and arising from individual discrimination. What is arising from the sign? It is the insight that attends only to the image in the domain of meditative stabilization that is associated with conceptualization. What is arising from thorough investigation? It is the insight that attends to those very dharmas that have not been thoroughly understood by wisdom, in order to thoroughly understand them. What is arising from individual discrimination? It is the insight that attends to those dharmas that have been thoroughly understood by wisdom, in order to thoroughly experience bliss through liberation." Thus it is said. In this regard, the Hearer's Ground states: "The attention of the ground that is placed on the dharma or instruction that has been heard and grasped attends without thinking, and does not conceptualize, measure, or closely examine, but only follows after the sign. And when it thinks and closely examines, then it follows after thorough investigation. And when it is thus determined, it similarly individually discriminates, which is to follow after individual discrimination of thorough investigation. These three are said to be the three doors of insight." These points can be summarized as follows: First, it is to focus on the sign of something like the meaning of selflessness, but not to engage in much determination. Second, it is to determine in order to ascertain what was previously uncertain.

It is established. The third is to examine the meaning that has been determined as before. The six aspects are focusing on the six bases, which is the way of seeking higher vision by completely searching. This also involves completely searching for meaning, things, characteristics, directions, time, and reasoning, and after searching, also individually distinguishing them. Among them, seeking meaning is seeking "the meaning of this word is this." Seeking things is seeking "this is internal, this is an external thing." Seeking characteristics is twofold, seeking "this is its own characteristic, this is a general characteristic" or "common and uncommon." Seeking direction is seeking from the perspective of the faults and shortcomings of the forest side, while the bright side is sought from the perspective of qualities and benefits. Seeking time is seeking "in the past, it happened like this, in the future, it will happen like this, and in the present, it exists like this." Seeking reasoning is, among the four types of reasoning, the reasoning of dependence is that the arising of all results depends on causes and conditions. This is also seeking from the respective perspectives of the conventional and ultimate truths and their bases. The reasoning of action is that phenomena each perform their own actions, such as the action of fire burning. This is also seeking "this is a phenomenon, this is an action, this phenomenon produces this action." The reasoning of establishment by validity is establishing meaning without contradicting valid cognition. This is also seeking "does this have the three valid cognitions of direct perception, inference, and reliable testimony?" The reasoning of the nature of phenomena is having faith in the nature of phenomena that are famous in the world, such as the heat of fire and the wetness of water, as their nature, as well as the inconceivable nature of phenomena and the abiding nature of phenomena, and not thinking about other reasons for it being that way, seeking in that way. Having established it as six, what the yogi should know is definitely three: the meaning of what is said, how many objects of knowledge there are, and how they are. Among them, seeking from the perspective of the first is the first. Seeking from the perspective of the second is seeking things and seeking characteristics, two types. Seeking from the perspective of the third is the remaining three.

and stopped seeking common characteristics. In the Śrāvakabhūmi, it says: That is focused on the three doors of vipaśyanā and the six kinds of distinctions that are the basis. In short, it completely encompasses all vipaśyanā. Those words spoken there state that it encompasses all vipaśyanā. Moreover, the doors of the four vipaśyanās mentioned earlier are three, and it is said that there are six ways of seeking that follow these three doors, so the three doors and the six ways of seeking seem to be included in the previous four. The four mental activities, such as diligently entering, mentioned earlier, are said in the Śrāvakabhūmi to be common to both śamatha and vipaśyanā, so there are also four mental activities for vipaśyanā. Therefore, in the Prajñāpāramitā Upadeśa, it says: In this way, by completely cultivating the four kinds of vipaśyanā, one is liberated from the bonds of bad rebirth, and by completely cultivating the nine kinds of śamatha, one will be liberated from the bonds of signs. As it is said, many great treatises state that the cultivation of vipaśyanā is done through the four doors of differentiation, etc., as explained in the Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra, and the cultivation of śamatha is done through the nine minds that abide without any conceptualization. Third, there are two ways to cultivate vipaśyanā: refuting other systems and establishing one's own system. The first has four points, the first being the refutation of other systems: Some say that even if one has not found any view that realizes selflessness, if one holds the mind without any conceptualization, then one will have cultivated the meaning of reality, because reality, emptiness, is devoid of all identifications of "this is, this is not." Therefore, abiding in that way is an entry that is in accordance with reality, because where nothing is established, the mind does not grasp anything either. They say this. To this it must be said: Does that meditator need to know that phenomena are not established in anything, and then, in accordance with that, let the mind not grasp anything? If one does not know this, but because the reality of phenomena is not established in anything, simply abiding without the mind grasping anything, is that cultivating its reality? If it is the former, then it contradicts that you have not found the view, because you
