In order to purify gold or silver of all impurities and dirt, during pages 101 to 200, if it is burned in fire and washed with water in due time, then those ornaments will become manifest in a way that is soft and easy to work with. Just as a blacksmith or a blacksmith's apprentice who is skilled in the craft that matches the blacksmith, uses blacksmith's tools to transform the ornaments into any desired shape, so too does the yogi. When his mind is disgusted by not being inclined towards the defilements and impurities such as greed, and when he is not inclined towards the unpleasantness of afflictions, and when he is manifestly delighted by being manifestly inclined towards virtue, then the yogi's mind, whichever aspect of calm abiding or insight it is definitely joined with, will become very close, very calm, unmoving, and unshakeable, and will also go forth in order to accomplish the meaning as it was thought. Thus it was said. Furthermore, the main obstacles to samadhi, which is the mind remaining steadily on one object, are two: dullness and excitement. Among these, if there is a strong and lasting power of intelligence that sees the qualities of the precious ones and so forth, then it is very easy to cut off dullness, because many qualified individuals have said that its antidote is to uplift the mind by seeing the qualities. If there is a strong and lasting power of intelligence that sees the faults of impermanence and suffering and so forth, then it is very easy to cut off excitement, because excitement is a distraction of the mind that belongs to the category of desire, and therefore many scriptures praise weariness as its antidote. Therefore, the more one cultivates from training faith in the spiritual friend up to training the entering mind, the more easily will the stable samadhis that please the wise be accomplished. Not only in settling meditation, but also in analytical meditation, one must cultivate by being separated from dullness and excitement. And the learned, previous lamas of this instruction, in order to have correct understanding of the scope of the object of focus that is set for the occasion, will cite the statements of the sutras and treatises at the appropriate time.

Regarding the affairs of the fathers, contemplate repeatedly in the mind with the instructions of the guru, adorn it with the words of the predecessors, explain it completely, and when it is explained by someone who knows how to teach the Dharma to someone who knows how to listen to the Dharma, it is said that if you secretly think, like the way of thinking in the monastic college, it is difficult to succeed, which is very good and great. Now it is said that this is the time of focus, so you can't do it even a little bit, because it is a wrong view to say that the time of hearing and thinking and the time of practice are contradictory to the two of teaching a lot of Dharma and practicing. However, since it seems that everything that is said can become practice, it is also necessary to slightly separate what needs to be protected. Whether all the scriptures can appear as key instructions seems to depend on whether or not a definite understanding has been obtained on this method of protection. Not to mention those who have not studied the Tripitaka, even those who have studied the great sutras and tantras for a long time, when practicing the path, they seem to first think of the aspects of the scriptures they have studied. Although it seems necessary to determine it in detail, because I am worried about too many words, I will only say this much. The refutation of wrong views on the method of protection has been explained. Now, because it is necessary to explain the order in which the guru guides the disciple who relies on the guru in accordance with the Dharma as mentioned before, so secondly, the order of how to train the mind after relying on it is divided into two: to encourage to obtain the essence from the leisure support, and the way to obtain the essence. The first is divided into three: recognizing leisure, thinking that its meaning is great, and thinking that it is difficult to obtain. The first is divided into two: leisure and endowment. The first is: from the 'Collection of Precious Qualities': 'With the precepts, restrain the nature of many sentient beings, and by abandoning the eight non-leisures, you will always obtain leisure.' As it is said, to be free from the eight non-leisures is leisure. The eight non-leisures are: from the 'Letter to a Friend': 'Holding wrong views and animals, hungry ghosts and hell beings, without the appearance of a Buddha, born in a borderland, barbaric, ignorant and dumb, long-lived gods and any other beings, are the eight faults of non-leisure. Having obtained leisure and endowment by freeing oneself from them, one should strive to cut off birth and death.' As it is said.
