The debate with the Svātantrikas about whether or not there is intrinsic existence is merely a debate over names. Because the Svātantrikas also say that it is established by its own characteristics, it is necessary to clearly prohibit those who hold the idea that "it is so." This is like the Sāṃkhyas, who also say that the object that appears in the field of auditory consciousness is permanent. If you accept that the object that appears in the field of auditory consciousness, then refuting the permanence of sound is like fighting over names. Other sentient beings are held to arise from causes and conditions, and therefore they are attached to the existence of an intrinsic nature that is established by its own essence, thereby becoming bound. For the wise, however, based on that reason, they refute the existence of intrinsic nature and generate certainty in the non-existence of intrinsic nature, thereby cutting the bonds of clinging to views. Therefore, establishing the absence of intrinsic nature by the sign of dependent origination is a great and wonderful skillful means. Seeing this meaning, the Bhagavan said, "Whatever arises from conditions is not born. There is no nature of birth in it. Whatever depends on conditions is said to be empty. Whoever knows emptiness is vigilant." The first two lines say that whatever arises from conditions is pervaded by being unborn by its own nature. The third line says that the meaning of dependent origination, which depends on conditions, is the meaning of being empty of intrinsic nature. The fourth line shows the benefit of realizing emptiness in this way. Similarly, "If the wise have realized the laws of dependent arising, they will not rely on extreme views." Thus, it is said that realizing dependent origination cuts off extreme clinging. Furthermore, if there were an intrinsic nature established by its own essence, then the Buddhas and Śrāvakas, etc., should have seen it, but they did not. And, since conditions can do nothing to that intrinsic nature, the net of conceptual proliferation clinging to signs cannot be cut, and thus there will be no liberation. As it says in the Elephant Strength Sutra, "If phenomena had intrinsic nature, the Buddhas and Śrāvakas would know it. The true Dharma would not pass into Nirvana, the wise would never be separated from proliferation." As it is said. From the third, fourth, and fifth chapters onwards, the reasoning that refutes the existence of intrinsic nature in the sense bases, aggregates, and elements refutes the self of phenomena.

Even if the absence of self is ascertained, it would be very good. But fearing too many words, it is not elaborated. Third, the way to eliminate obscurations by habituating to these views is: Like this, having seen that in me and what I possess, not even a particle of inherent existence exists, by habituating to its meaning, the view of self that clings to me and mine will cease. If it ceases, then the four types of grasping, such as desire, that were previously mentioned will also cease. If it ceases, then due to the cause of grasping, existence will not arise, and due to the cause of existence, the aggregates will not connect, the suffering of birth will end, and thus liberation will be attained. The eighteenth chapter says: For the sake of the peace of me and mine, the clinging to self and the clinging to mine will no longer exist. And, regarding internal and external things, if the thought of me and mine ceases, then grasping will cease, and when it ceases, birth will cease. Having done this, grasping is affliction, and existence is karma, therefore, the cause of birth is karma and affliction, and when they cease, liberation will be attained. It itself says: By the cessation of karma and affliction, liberation is attained. And also, by the cessation of what do karma and affliction cease? It itself also says: Karma and affliction arise from conceptual thought, and those proliferations from proliferation, will cease by emptiness. Therefore, this continuation of the cycle of birth and death arises from karma. Only the actions of body, speech, and mind that are associated with an afflicted mind are the karma that accomplishes samsara. Therefore, karma arises from affliction. Regarding objects, if false conceptual thoughts of attaching characteristics such as likeable and dislikeable are not introduced, then afflictions rooted in the view of self will not arise. Therefore, afflictions such as attachment and aversion that are rooted in the view of self arise from improper conceptual thought. Because only those who cling to the eight worldly dharmas, men and women, pots, cloths, form, feeling, etc., thinking that they are true, will conceptualize those objects through improper mental engagement. Therefore, conceptual thought arises from the proliferation of clinging to truth. The Clear Words says: Worldly proliferation also completely ceases by emptiness, because all things are seen as emptiness. Why? Because if there is clinging to things,
