If cause and effect are one and the same, then the producer and the produced become one. Thus it is said. Also from the Entering Path: If it arises from it, there is no merit whatsoever. It is not reasonable for what has been born to be born again. If one thinks that what has already been born will be born again, then the birth of sprouts etc. cannot be found here. Thus it is said. Therefore, this assertion that things arise from themselves is not reasonable either in theory or in the world. Thus it is said. If it is thought that the fruit arises from other things, because it is said that the fruit arises from four different conditions, then thick darkness would also arise from the flame, because it is other. Moreover, from all things that have become causes and have not become causes, all things that are fruits and are not fruits will arise, because the other itself is the same. The meaning of this is: If one admits that the sprout has a nature that is established by its own essence, then the way in which the barley sprout, from the point of view of its own essence, becomes different in nature from fire etc., which cannot be its producer, and the way in which it becomes different in nature from its cause, the barley seed, both appear to be the same in all respects. In that case, when the appearance of a different nature appears from what cannot be the producer, just as it appears from a different independent lapis lazuli, when a difference appears from one's own barley seed, the different part also appears in the same way. If this way of appearing differently is their nature established by their own essence, then it is impossible to distinguish all the differences between what does not arise from fire etc. and what arises from barley seed. If one must distinguish the difference between arising and not arising, then one should also distinguish the different ways of being different in nature, which is revealing a contradiction. As it is said in the commentary on the Entering Path: Just as the barley seed that produces is other than its fruit, the barley sprout, so are fire, charcoal, and barley seeds etc. that are not producers also other. Also, just as the barley sprout arises from the barley seed that has become other, so does fire, charcoal, and barley seed

and so on, will also change. Just as a sprout of wheat changes into something else, it comes from a seed of wheat. If a vase and cloth, etc., also change, that is not seen. Therefore, this does not exist. Thus, it is clearly stated. Therefore, wanting to establish that something is pervaded by a single, opposing force is not the intention of the scholar. Moreover, its damaging factor has already been discussed in the context of refuting that the presence of smoke in a large gathering does not pervade the presence of fire. In the twentieth chapter of the commentary on the "Entering the Middle Way," it is also said: "If cause and effect are different, then cause and non-cause become the same." And in the "Entering the Middle Way," it is also said: "If another arises dependent on another, then thick darkness would arise from flames, and everything would arise from everything, because for all things that do not produce, otherness is the same." Thus, it is stated. Such a fallacy cannot be answered by whether or not it belongs to the same continuum, because if it is a different nature, then belonging to the same continuum itself cannot be established, just like before. Seeing the certainty of arising and not arising cannot be used as an answer either, because if it is not established on the object through conceptual imputation, but rather through its own essence, then how can seeing certainty be justified? Because this is the time for analysis. Those who say that things arise from two say that the clay pot arises from clay, which is arising from self, while arising from a potter, etc., is said to be arising from other. Internally, too, Lhas Byin takes this birth only because he exists as the nature of life in other lifetimes, so Lhas Byin and life are one, therefore it arises from self, while arising from parents and black and white karma is said to arise from other. It does not arise only from self, nor does it arise only from other, so it arises from the combination of both. This is refuted by the reasoning previously stated, the aspect of arising from self is refuted by the reasoning that refutes arising from self, and the aspect of arising from other is refuted by the reasoning that refutes arising from other. In the "Entering the Middle Way," it is also said: "Arising from two is not the nature of reason, because the faults already mentioned fall upon it." This is in the world.
