If form and so on are combined, and seeing form is indeed an appropriate object, then because the eye cannot see itself, it also shows that it cannot see others. The Catuhsataka also says: "The nature of all things, if it first appears to itself, then why is it not perceived by the eye itself?" It is said like this. If you think that just as fire does not burn itself but can burn others, it is not contradictory that the eye cannot see itself but can see others. In general, it is not just preventing fire from burning wood and the eye from seeing form, but it is preventing the eye from having the nature of seeing others. If that is the case, since it is necessary to use the self-established burning of wood by fire as an example, then at that time, the example is as unreasonable as what is to be proven. Like this, if both fire and wood have a self-established nature, then it does not exceed being either the same nature or different natures, so which of these two is it? If it is one, then the fire will burn itself. Also, how can fire be the burner and wood be the burned? If it can be like this, then he will also say that fire is the burned and wood is the burner, what is the answer? If the natures are different, then fire will appear even without wood, just as cattle appear without horses. The Catuhsataka also says: "Fire burns heat, it does not burn non-heat, therefore there is no such thing as wood, and without it there is no fire." It is said like this. Thus, if you admit that burning has a self-established nature, then just as not burning oneself also means not burning others, if you admit that the eye has the nature of seeing, then you must also think that not seeing oneself also means not seeing others, so the previous fault cannot be avoided. Thus, when you see the refutations made against admitting self-nature, you will abandon the tenet of holding that things have a self-established nature, and then you will also be able to realize that in selflessness, the agent and the object are reasonable. Therefore, you can distinguish between selflessness and non-existence, so you can also distinguish between self-nature and existence, therefore, you can also realize measuring the object of measurement of selflessness with the measure of selflessness and so on. So, this

If the valid cognition that realizes that fire and firewood are without inherent existence is not direct perception, but must be considered inferential cognition, then what is its basis, the reasoning? If there is inherent existence, it will be seen that it does not go beyond being either one or different. When the inherent existence of one and different is negated, it will be seen that it pervades the absence of inherent existence. Thus, two aspects are established. The certainty that there is no inherent existence of one and different is the characteristic of the subject-property, so there is a sign of the third aspect. Based on this, the certainty that fire and firewood are without inherent existence is inferential cognition. Through this, one should also understand the process of the three aspects and the arising of inferential cognition in the previously stated statement known to others. Consequence is: if fire and firewood have inherent existence, then the inherent existence will become either one or different. Like this, if it is one, the fire will burn itself. Like this, taking what is admitted by others as a sign, and thereby projecting the undesired consequence onto the opponent, these are consequences. Through these examples, one should also understand other consequences. Thus, as long as that opponent does not abandon the tenet of asserting the existence of things, then relying on the established measurable things that are established by their own nature, it can be established as a valid cognition that accomplishes the purpose. When it is realized by valid cognition that some things are not established by their own nature, then the tenet of asserting the existence of things is abandoned. In the Clear Words, it is also said: "Again, is there harm from inference by inference through the door of inference that is established for anything whatsoever?" The answer is: "Yes, there is. That is also by the reason that is established for oneself, but not by what is established for others, because it is seen in the world itself." In the world, sometimes the witness is victorious or defeated by the words that both the plaintiff and the defendant have made valid cognition, and sometimes it is only by one's own words that one is victorious or defeated, but not by the words of others. Just as it is in the world, so it is also in reasoning, because only worldly terms are appropriate for use in treatises on reasoning. Thus, examples and knowledge that are known to others and can be used as signs are spoken of. Logicians think that the valid cognition by which the opponent establishes the three aspects, etc., must also be established for the proponent.
