This place has spoken of this fault. Because of this, this place itself admits that the reason is not established in this way, therefore, for all inferences established with the dharma of things as the reason, because the reason and so on are not established in themselves, all things that can be established will be completely destroyed. The meaning of this statement is that those who want to follow Chandrakirti say: Earth is not truly of the nature of hardness, because it is an element. Like the wind. It is written in the Blaze of Reasoning and other treatises. If it is written as "because it is truly an element," then it is not established by oneself; if it is written as "because it is conventionally an element," then it is not established in the eyes of the externalist objectivist. If they do not consider this to be an unestablished reason, then they contradict their own admission that the unestablishedness in these two ways is pervaded by the unestablished reason. Some say that if only "element" is written, then it will be prevented by the unestablishedness by reason. Refuting in this way is definitely not the intention of the Prasannapadā, and that teacher did not think so either, so it is a reversed and erroneous statement for both systems. So, how should it be understood? Because this meaning as stated above is admitted by this place itself. The "as stated above" here refers to the way in which the subject was previously said to be unestablished, and it was also said that it should be applied to the reason, because that scripture was spoken immediately after that. In this way, it will become here, like the direct perception of establishing the subject and the reason, it does not go beyond the two cases of error and non-error. If the meaning obtained through error is taken as the reason and so on, then it is not established in the eyes of the externalist objectivist; if the meaning obtained through non-error is taken as those, then one's own valid cognition cannot establish it, so the previously stated unestablishedness of the svatantrika's reason and subject and so on is the meaning of "as stated above." How does Legdenjé (Bhāvaviveka) admit that the unestablishedness is established in this way? It is the phrase "because the Tathagata has said so," which refers to examining in terms of the two truths. Its meaning is, is it to establish "because the Tathagata said it in conventional truth" as the reason? Or the ultimate truth?

It is not at all possible to examine whether it can be taken as a reason to say "because it was spoken by the Buddha." As before, when refuting the opponent's view, the subject of the argument should be argued without distinguishing between true and false. Otherwise, just as one hopes that one of the proponent or opponent cannot be established, one also hopes that the reason and the example cannot be established in the same way. How could such a complete pandita be mistaken with such a rough understanding? Therefore, asking whether the meaning of the reason "because it was spoken by the Buddha" is the ultimate truth or the conventional truth, if it is said to be the conventional truth, then one does not think so, so it is not established for oneself; if it is said to be the ultimate truth, then we have already prevented the existence and non-existence of the fruit in the ultimate truth and the arising of both from the cause, so it is not established for us; if it is neither the true truth nor the conventional truth, then there is no need to clarify it because it is not desired. If it is said "because it arises," then asking whether the arising as the reason is the true truth or the conventional truth is the same as before. If it is said which of the arising of the true truth and the conventional truth can be taken as the reason, then this is completely misunderstanding the previous point. After asking whether it is the true truth or the conventional truth, even if the ultimate truth is not established for oneself, how can it be said that if it is the conventional truth, it is not established for others? If it is not so, then the place of birth in the subject of the argument also exists in the conventional truth, so the refuter will not be able to establish it. Then, as just said, Lekdenjye (Good Intelligence) examines the reason for the true truth and the conventional truth, so what is the way he promised? It should be explained that here, the teacher considers that what is obtained by the unerring wisdom is the ultimate truth, and what is obtained by the erroneous wisdom is the conventional truth, so asking "which of the true truth and the conventional truth" is the same as "which of the two is obtained," and the key point must be consistent. In this way, if the thing taken as the reason is neither the conventional truth nor the ultimate truth, then the reason must not be established; if the thing taken as the reason is not the thing obtained by one of the unerring wisdom and the erroneous wisdom, then the thing taken as the reason cannot be established, for the same reason. He said, "This is what I promised," but it is not a real promise.
