It is necessary. Since there is absolutely no valid cognition that establishes the three aspects of the subject and the sign, the object found by non-deceptive consciousness cannot be a subject. Here, the term "own characteristic" does not refer only to the ability to perform a function, as the logicians believe, but rather to the nature of acknowledging the self-nature of any object, whether it is a real object or a non-real object, as mentioned earlier. Therefore, those who assert the existence of self-nature believe that even inference that measures non-real objects is not mistaken about the object of attachment to such self-nature. If it is a consciousness that is not mistaken about such self-nature, then whether it is not mistaken about the appearing object or the object of attachment, it will not be mistaken about the meaning of that object. Therefore, one's own system believes that such valid cognition does not establish the subject, etc., but it is not believed that there is no conventional valid cognition in the minds of both opponents that measures the eye and form, etc. In the mind of the external opponent, the sense consciousness, as mentioned earlier, is not harmed by reasoning on the object of the definite understanding that is determined to exist only as form, etc., which is caused by harmlessness. If explained in detail, for example, in holding that there is a sprout, there are three ways of holding: holding that the sprout has a self-nature established by its own essence, holding that it truly exists; holding that the sprout is not established by its own essence, but exists as an illusion, holding that it falsely exists; and holding that it exists merely in general without distinguishing between true and false. There are also cases where the sprout is held to exist as permanent or impermanent, etc. However, since there is no holding without any of these three ways of holding, there is no need to discuss them here. For sentient beings who have not generated the view of realizing that things have no self-nature in their minds, there are only two ways of holding: holding that it merely exists and holding that it truly exists. The holding that it exists as an illusion that is not established by its own essence does not occur. Before obtaining the view that all phenomena are like illusions, all that is held to exist by the thoughts of sentient beings is considered to be true holding, which is not reasonable in any way. This has been explained many times before when discussing conventional valid cognition and when distinguishing between the existence and non-existence of self-nature and the four existences and non-existences. If it is not like that, self-nature

If all the terms made by conceptualization before understanding the view of no self-nature are clinging to truth, then the worldly arbitrary terms, because they are not contaminated by the previously mentioned cause of error, the Madhyamikas must accept the established meaning as terms. In this way, all will be subject to rational harm. In this way, there will be no difference between Ishvara and existence or non-existence, because the inverted view will become a great obstacle to realizing the meaning of Madhyamaka. As a sign of understanding emptiness in a distorted way in this way, when many virtuous practices and ways of practice that must be done by conceptualization before are done in the way of obtaining the view later, then all the previous ones are seen as clinging to characteristics and binding to samsara. Then the understanding arises that those virtuous practices are said to those who have not obtained such a definitive meaning view. Then, with the wrong conceptualization of seeing all conceptualizations as faults, many Dharmas are abandoned, and there are many cases like the Chinese monks. In this regard, before obtaining the view of no self-nature, it is impossible for those people to distinguish between mere existence and existence established by its own characteristics. Because whatever exists, like the commentary on the Four Hundred Verses quoted earlier, is considered to be pervaded by existence established by its own nature. Because of this key point, it is also assumed that non-self-nature is pervaded by non-existence, so many people argue that cause and effect cannot be established on self-nature emptiness. After the view of realizing no self-nature arises in the mind, all three ways of clinging to existence will arise. However, from the time that view arises, until that attention does not disappear, when reasoning and discriminating and thinking about whether it is established by its own nature, the clinging to truth that admits that it is established by its own nature will not arise for a while. However, it is not that innate clinging to truth does not arise. Therefore, in the mindstream where the view of realizing no self-nature, which is established by its own nature, has arisen and has not disappeared, all the sprouts of clinging to existence are not clinging to existence as if they were illusions. If it is not like that, then the manifestation of clinging to the real existence of those will not be able to arise, because there will be such a fault. Like Master Lekdenjye and others, those Madhyamikas who consider the self-characteristics of phenomena, which are established by their own nature, to be nominal.
