This is explaining the way to refute the need for Svatantrika in the limbs of generation. For the Prasangikas, the debate of whether or not Svatantrika is needed in the limbs of inference that generate after realizing some meanings in however many parts, is temporarily put aside. If explained in conjunction with the text, the meaning from "When" to "already promised" is: The basis of the property to be proven, the subject of the Dharma, such as the eye or form, is completely ruined, that is, not established, this is promised by the skillful discriminator himself. If you ask what the Dharma is like? It is just a little bit of invertedness that is tainted by ignorance, obtaining my things, that is, the meaning established by the mere conventional consciousness such as eye consciousness. The way of promising is: In the ultimate, the negation of arising, that is when relying on those Dharmas as the Dharma to be proven, because if it is only established, then relying on it is contradictory. If you ask: Even if you promise that way, what will happen? Because it is not established, and it is not just the meaning of form, etc., it cannot become something obtained by non-deceptive wisdom, because it is obtained by the conventional consciousness that holds false objects, so those are also confused by ignorance. Therefore, what is obtained by non-deception does not appear to the confused consciousness, and what appears to the confused consciousness is not obtained by non-deceptive wisdom, because the inverted confused consciousness and the non-inverted non-deceptive wisdom are different because they enter the object by abandoning each other's objects. This is the meaning of "Inverted and non-inverted are each separate." Explaining this meaning is from "When" to "How can there be an object." Among them, inverted refers to those conventional consciousnesses such as the eye that are tainted by ignorance. Those who take non-existence as existence, that is, form, sound, etc. do not have the nature of being established by their own nature, but are held by the root consciousness as existing, what is held by the non-conceptual consciousness is only appearance, so it is necessary to take the appearance of form, etc. as its own nature. At that time, how can there be an object for something that has become existent?

“འགྱུར།” means that since it appears without its own characteristics, how can those consciousnesses accomplish even the subtle things that exist by their own characteristics? That is its meaning. An example of something that appears without being established by its own characteristics is like hair-nets and so on. Those, because the root consciousnesses that appear as form, sound, etc. are mistaken, it is said that they cannot be the accomplisher of the self-nature of things. The non-mistaken consciousness does not grasp any form, sound, etc., which shows "when there is no cataract," etc. Among them, non-perversion is non-mistaken consciousness. It only exists in those who directly realize Suchness, and not elsewhere. It does not impute what is not true, that is, it does not impute form, sound, etc. that cannot be the object of Suchness, that is, it does not grasp them as existing. For example, just as the eye consciousness without cataracts does not perceive the appearance of falling hair-nets. Transforming into conventionality means the false meaning of form, sound, etc. Not being existent means not being established by its own characteristics. Like that, the non-mistaken consciousness that has Suchness as its object does not accomplish even a small part, because they have not seen it.

This means that it is impossible to avoid faults in establishing a thesis for external debaters using svatantrika reasoning. If someone thinks that even in conventional terms, this is the case for things that do not have inherent existence, but we do not accept such a situation in conventional terms. Because there are svatantrika dharmas and so on, there is no fault in the thesis. Then, it is unreasonable for such an inherent nature to exist in conventional terms, because it has been said before and will continue to be explained, so this answer is unreasonable. Second, it is different from giving examples. The Prasannapadā says: There is no similarity in the examples either. Because the universal of sound and the universal of impermanence do not want to express the difference, both have it. Similarly, for the universal of the eye, those who say emptiness and non-emptiness do not accept it even in the conventional sense, and it is not so in the ultimate sense, so there is no similarity in the examples. This means that it is neither produced nor the attribute of the sky, nor is it revealed by the cause of action and pre-existence, sound and impermanence that do not depend on cause, are merely universals. It is not saying that there are no eyes, etc., that are neither true nor false. Because those debaters do not accept it, and if so, no one can prove that these two examples are not similar. So, what is it? It is acceptable in the view of the two debaters to determine that sound exists without distinguishing it by any difference such as "sound produced by birth" or "sound of the attribute of the sky." In the two views of saying emptiness by nature and saying non-emptiness by nature, it is also not established by non-delusive consciousness. It is also not established by delusive consciousness, and there is no universal of the eye or form established by valid cognition. What is established by delusive consciousness is not accepted by external debaters. What is obtained by non-delusive consciousness cannot be established by the valid cognition of the previous debater, so there is no similarity between the example and the thesis. Non-delusion, in general, refers to the samadhi that directly measures the ultimate truth, but here it refers to the direct perception that is not deluded about the self-character of the appearing object, and the inference that is not deluded about the self-character of the object of attachment.
