Furthermore, although there is an assertion, there is no commitment, and also not having one's own tenet, this is also in the context of examining the ultimate truth, not making commitments such as no self-nature. It is not that one does not want any commitment at all, therefore, in the context of examining the ultimate truth, if one commits to the thesis of no self-nature and establishes it as one's own tenet, that is the Svātantrika; if one does not commit in that way, but merely refutes the assertions of others, that appears to be the Prāsaṅgika. Now, those who consider themselves to be Madhyamaka Prāsaṅgikas think that no matter whether the commitment is based on the ultimate truth or the conventional truth, in the conventional, one's own tenet does not exist. If there is such a commitment, then one must accept the example and reason that establish it, and if that is the case, one will become a Svātantrika. Therefore, the Prāsaṅgika does not have any tenet of his own. As it says in the *Vigrahavyāvartanī*: "If I had some thesis, then I would have that fault. Because I have no thesis, therefore I am faultless. If by means of perception and so forth, something is determined by meaning, if that is to be established or refuted, because it does not exist, I have no accusation." Also, as it says in the *Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning*: "Those who possess great self-nature, for them there is no partisanship, no debate. For those who have no partisanship, where would there be another's partisanship?" Also, as it says in the *Four Hundred Stanzas*: "For existence, non-existence, and existence and non-existence, for whom there is no partisanship, even if the time is long, one cannot utter an accusation." Because it is said in the scriptures that the Madhyamaka does not have partisanship and commitment. In the *Prasannapadā* it says: "If one is a Madhyamaka, then it is not proper to make inferences for oneself, because there is no commitment to another's tenet." It also says: "The meaning of refuting a consequence is also related to the other party, not to us, because we have no commitment." Also, as it says in the *Entering the Middle Way*: "By refuting, does the refutation occur without contact, or does the refutation occur after contact? Having said that, where is the fault here? Certainly, transformation occurs for one who has a tenet, for one who has no tenet, this tenet does not exist, therefore consequence is impossible." Because it is said in the scriptures that one does not incur faults because one has no tenet of one's own. Therefore, all those establishments are establishments made by the Madhyamaka for the sake of others.

It is just a slight establishment. As it says in the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra: "As you desire things that are other-powered, I do not allow the conventional either. For the sake of the result, I say that these exist, I declare before the world." Thus it is said. Also, as it says in the Vigrahavyāvartanī: "Since there is nothing to be refuted, I do not refute anything either. Therefore, you have made this accusation, saying that it will definitely be able to refute." Thus it is said, because there is no refutation of other schools. Thus it is said. Some Tibetan scholars of the past Madhyamaka school, following the teacher Chandrakirti, have thus refuted well the views that the Madhyamaka school does not have its own tenets and the valid cognitions that establish them. Their own tenet is: measuring by its own characteristics that are analyzed in detail by reason, and acknowledging the establishment of valid cognitions, refuting both direct perception and inference, which are valid cognitions that involve the force of things. In conventional terms, the valid cognitions and objects of measurement that are commonly known in the world without analysis are acknowledged. The Madhyamaka school itself, in the manner of arguing with external debaters, establishes the meaning that is not truly existent with correct reasons. Even so, it will not become Svatantrika, because it is established in the manner of valid cognitions that are commonly known in the world without analysis. Thus it is taught. Second, there are four parts to refuting it, first, refuting the first view: the view of the commentary on the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra, the reason that the sign and pervasion are not established by valid cognition, the reason that the sign is not established by valid cognition, is not reasonable. Like this, both the sign proponent and the external debater must be established by valid cognition. For the view that thinks so, if the sign proponent does not know that the external debater has already established it, it will not be considered a sign. Because this reason cannot determine that the external debater must be established by valid cognition. Also, because one does not know the mind of the external debater, it is established as not knowing that others are established by valid cognition. Because one also does not know that others have promised that meaning, it is also unreasonable to refute in the manner of the opponent's promise. Because, even if the opponent clearly says "I think like this," it cannot be determined whether they have promised as they said, and because one does not know the minds of others. The reason that the pervasion is not established by valid cognition is also unreasonable. When establishing the pervasion that where there is smoke, there is fire, on a heap of barley,
