Attachment is, as previously stated, considering a person with inherent existence as the self of a person. Therefore, it must be accepted as the attachment to the self of a person. However, attachment to the self of a person does not pervade the view of the aggregates. So, what kind of attachment to the self is needed for the view of the aggregates? For the conceptually imputed view of the aggregates, although it is not necessarily like some sects revered by many who hold the aggregates as the self. However, for the innate view of the aggregates, in the "Entering the Middle Way," it is prohibited to take the aggregates as the object, and in the commentary, it is said that the self imputed based on convention is taken as the object. Therefore, it is not taking the aggregates as the object, but merely taking a person as the object. Moreover, it is necessary to have a person who is the basis for the arising of the attachment of "I," so a person from another continuum is not the object. What is the manner of attachment to that object? The commentary on "Entering the Middle Way" says, "For the view of the aggregates, it is entering into a state such as the thought of 'I' and 'mine.'" Therefore, it is not merely attaching to inherent existence established by its own character, but it is necessary to have an attachment of the thought of "I." Also, the commentary on "Entering the Middle Way" says, "Only the view of the aggregates should be abandoned, and that is abandoned from understanding the selflessness of the self." Therefore, by realizing the selflessness of that self, which is the object, i.e., the lack of inherent existence, it is abandoned in a way that contradicts the manner of attachment, so it is necessary to attach to the opposite of that wisdom. That is also attaching to a person as established by their own entity, so it is attaching to the "I" established by its own character. The view of the aggregates that attaches to "mine" should also be understood by analogy. Holding a person as substantially existent without holding them as "I" and "mine" is ignorance that is deluded about the self of a person, so it will not become an affliction. Thus, between establishing as the self mere inherent existence established by its own entity and taking the object of the mind of merely the thought of "I" as the self, the former is the object of refutation by reasoning, while the latter is accepted in convention, so it is not refuted. Therefore, this shows that it does not refute the object of the innate view of the aggregates, but its manner of attachment is the "I" established by its own entity, so it is not that it does not refute it. For example, the object of the attachment to sound as permanent, sound, is not refuted, but it is not contradictory to refute its object of clinging, sound as permanent.
