With the view of seeing "I" (Tibetan: ང་།) as empty (Tibetan: སྟོང་།), that yogi will be liberated. As such, there are many statements, and therefore it would contradict them. Therefore, the root of all downfalls is the ignorance of clinging to inherent existence. Eradicating that through a way that directly contradicts that clinging is solely the wisdom that realizes selflessness or the absence of inherent existence. If one refutes the way it clings, then one must admit, even unwillingly, that one is negating the view of suchness. As it is said in the commentary on the Four Hundred Stanzas: "The gate of peace is without a second. The complete cessation of attachment is the cause for attaining nirvana. However, other than viewing the absence of inherent existence, there is no other dharma that can cause such a complete cessation of attachment. Therefore, this selflessness, characterized by the absence of inherent existence, becomes the gate of peace without a second. To enter the city of nirvana, this alone is the unparalleled gate. If one says that there are three gates of liberation: emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, even so, viewing selflessness alone is the main one. If one knows that all dharmas are selfless and that attachment to all things is completely exhausted, where would there be seeking for something or fixating on signs for the sake of something? Therefore, this selflessness is the unique gate of peace without a second. Therefore, in the Collection of Enlightenment, it is said: "Since it is empty due to the absence of inherent existence, what is the use of signs and characteristics for emptiness? Since all signs are transformed, why would the wise make aspirations?" Thus, after resolving the contradiction between explaining the three gates of liberation and explaining the view of seeing emptiness of inherent existence as the sole gate of liberation, it is established through scripture and reasoning that it is the gate of liberation. What is the use of refuting that object by merely severing inherent existence? Such realization is the antidote to clinging to the two selves as signs, so there is not even a trace of the stain of clinging to signs in it. If even such conceptualization is seen as a fault and one prevents both good and bad conceptualizations, then it is clear that one intends to establish the doctrine of the Chinese master Hwa Shang.

No. Second, refuting the fault of identifying the object to be refuted as having too narrow a scope: Some say that the object to be refuted is svabhāva (nature), and it has three characteristics: its essence is not produced by causes and conditions, its state does not change into another, and its establishment does not depend on others. As it is said in the Root Verses on the Middle Way: Svabhāva is not reasonable to arise from causes and conditions. If it arises from causes and conditions, svabhāva would become something made. How could svabhāva be something made? Svabhāva is uncreated and does not depend on others. Therefore, they say so. In general, if one believes that external and internal things, such as sprouts, are established as such a svabhāva, then the Madhyamikas must refute it. However, here, identifying the object to be refuted is: if one refutes something, one can realize that all dharmas are without svabhāva, and thus generate the Madhyamika view in one's mindstream, so one must identify the root of the object to be refuted. In that case, since conditioned things are produced by causes and conditions and change into others, this has already been established by one's own school. Therefore, there is no need to prove that they are without svabhāva. Moreover, they will also realize that things are without svabhāva, and so on, which is a fault. Therefore, how could that be a common and uncommon object to be refuted? If it is established as svabhāva established by its own essence, it must not depend on causes and conditions, and it will not change into others, etc. Although there are many such statements in the Madhyamika texts, those are pointing out faults from the perspective of pervasion, not identifying them from the perspective of the object to be refuted itself. Furthermore, even if something is established in ultimate truth, truly established, or truly established, it must not be produced by causes and conditions, etc., but those are not the meanings of being established in ultimate truth, etc. For example, impermanence pervades a pot, but impermanence cannot be the meaning of a pot, but it must be established as the meaning of a bloated belly. Similarly, if something is established in ultimate truth, etc., it must become an indivisible particle, but here we do not consider an indivisible particle to be the fundamental object to be refuted, because that is merely a designation by the uncommon clinging of the proponents of philosophical tenets. Therefore, that clinging is what causes sentient beings to wander in saṃsāra.
