It is necessary to clearly explain the subtle points. One should provide others with an irrefutable understanding of how to establish the absence of inherent existence based on dependent origination, and how things that are empty of inherent existence appear as cause and effect. Second, to explain how this system refutes that system: Thus, the system of the noble Nagarjuna holds that phenomena do not have even a particle of inherent existence established by their own entity, and if they were established by inherent existence, all the establishments of samsara and nirvana would be without purpose. Because those establishments cannot be without purpose, all establishments such as bondage and liberation are posited, so it is necessary to accept the absence of inherent existence. If you say that things do not have inherent existence established by their own entity, then what else is there? Therefore, to refute bondage, liberation, and arising and ceasing, it is not necessary to add distinctions such as ultimate truth, but it is refuted by the reasoning that refutes inherent existence. If you say that, consider how it is not refuted when bondage, liberation, and arising and destruction are established on the absence of inherent existence. If you think that the teacher's intention is that the establishments of samsara and nirvana, such as bondage and liberation, are all conventional truths, and I also accept them as conventional truths, then there is no fault. That is not correct reasoning, because the intention of the teacher Chandrakirti is that even in conventional truth, phenomena do not have inherent existence established by their own entity, and you also accept that. Thus, by the reasoning that refutes inherent existence, that inherent existence must also be refuted in conventional truth, and because you also want to refute bondage and liberation by the reasoning that refutes inherent existence, it is very clear that bondage and liberation are also refuted in conventional truth. In short, if you think that the absence of inherent existence contradicts bondage, liberation, and arising and ceasing, then all the establishments of samsara and nirvana are not permissible on emptiness that is empty of inherent existence, and they are not permissible in either of the two truths, so you have refuted the unique characteristic of the Madhyamikas. If you do not want them to contradict, then by the reasoning that refutes inherent existence, it is not necessary to add any distinctions to the object to be refuted, and there is no valid reason to want to refute arising and ceasing and bondage and liberation. Therefore, if you refute cause and effect by the reasoning that refutes inherent existence, then you are saying that arising and destruction are not permissible on the absence of inherent existence, and if that is the case, if all these are empty

Then, there is no arising and no destruction. If the Four Noble Truths do not exist for you, that would be too much. Like this, the twenty-fourth chapter records the debate of the Realist school. If the self-nature of all things does not exist in all things, then your words also have no self-nature and cannot change self-nature. After refuting in this way, the debate of the Realist school is recorded, which is very clear and without any difference. If both self-nature emptiness and non-emptiness do not allow arising and destruction, and we do not admit either self-nature emptiness or non-emptiness, so there is no fault, if you think like that, then it is absolutely not acceptable in the meaning of the scriptures. The commentary "Clear Words" says: We do not have the fault of arising and destruction being unreasonable, and the Four Truths etc. are reasonable, and this has been proven. The root verses also clearly separate and explain that the side of self-nature emptiness allows these, and the side of non-emptiness does not allow these. Also, the "Entering the Middle Way" says: Things are empty, like images etc., dependent on aggregates, and are not unknown either. Just as there, from emptiness, images etc., the appearance of knowledge arises. Similarly, even if all things are empty, they can arise from emptiness. Therefore, if you use reason to negate bondage and liberation etc., you cannot negate in the ultimate truth, you must negate in the conventional truth. At that time, if you negate all the systems of samsara and nirvana even in name, then such a Madhyamika is unprecedented. Third, how did the Madhyamika answer? If things are empty of self-nature, then the cause and effect of samsara and nirvana cannot be established. Regarding this debate, the venerable Nagarjuna believed that the Madhyamika threw back the fault that the other party was going to throw over, so he believed that the fault should be thrown back. As the twenty-fourth chapter of the "Root Wisdom" says: You are the one who turns your own faults into my faults, just like forgetting the horse while clearly riding on it. If you think that all dharmas arise from self-nature, then you think that all things are without cause and conditions. Also, if all of this is not empty, there is no arising and no destruction.
