Those who expound the absence of self of the person also extensively explain the eighteenth chapter. If this is not explaining the way to enter the suchness of the Great Vehicle, then, merely exhausting the clinging to self and what belongs to self should not reasonably become the suchness to be attained, and merely establishing that self and what belongs to self are without inherent existence does not establish the absence of self of phenomena, therefore, it should not reasonably become the path to enter suchness. If you think like that, there is no fault. Because, the clinging to self and what belongs to self is exhausted in all aspects, and it is completely abandoned by the method of not arising afflictions again from the two, although this also exists in the Lesser Vehicle, however, abandoning all the characteristics of the elaboration of outer and inner phenomena by not perceiving them at all is the Dharmakaya, and when realizing that self is without inherent existence, the aggregates, etc., which are its limbs, will also reverse the clinging to inherent existence, just as when a chariot is burned, its limbs such as wheels will also be burned. Moreover, in the Clear Words, it says: "Those who rely on imputation and are endowed with ignorance and perversion, are these five aggregates, which are the basis of manifest clinging to self, something that appears to be the object of appropriation, something that has the nature of aggregates? Or, is it something that does not have the nature of aggregates? Those who desire liberation analyze in this way. When analyzing in all aspects, those who desire liberation do not perceive it, therefore, for them, if self does not exist, how can what belongs to self exist? Because self is not perceived, the basis of imputation of self, what belongs to self, is also extremely difficult to perceive. Just as when a chariot is burned, its limbs, etc., are also not perceived because they are burned. Similarly, when yogis realize the absence of self, at that very time, the object of the aggregates, what belongs to self, will also be realized as without self." Therefore, it is said in the sutra that when realizing that self is without inherent existence, the aggregates that belong to self are also realized as without self, that is, without inherent existence. The Commentary on Entering also says: "Because it is perverted by focusing on the self-nature of form, etc., therefore, the absence of self of the person will also not be realized, because it focuses on the aggregates that are the basis of imputation of self. As it is said, as long as there is clinging to the aggregates,

Therefore, if one does not understand the selflessness of the aggregates, one cannot understand the selflessness of the person. If the wisdom that understands the selflessness of the person is the same wisdom that understands the selflessness of the aggregates, then the two wisdoms that understand the two selflessnesses become one, which is a fault. Dharma and person are separate, so the two wisdoms that understand their selflessness are also separate, just like the wisdom that understands that a pot and a pillar are impermanent. If the wisdom that understands the selflessness of the person does not understand the selflessness of the aggregates, then how can it be established that one understands the selflessness of the aggregates when one understands the selflessness of the person? Since the first question is not accepted, the following question will not be discussed. Even if the wisdom that understands the selflessness of the person does not think that the aggregates are selfless, that wisdom can lead to a definite understanding that the aggregates are selfless without relying on others. Therefore, it can cut off the clinging to the self-nature of the aggregates. Therefore, when one understands the selflessness of the person, it is said that one also understands the selflessness of the aggregates. This should also be understood as stated in Buddhapālita: If there is such a thing as 'I', then what is 'mine'? There is no 'I', so how can it be appropriate to say 'this is mine'? For example, when it is certain that the son of a barren woman does not exist, that wisdom does not think that the ears of the barren woman's son do not exist, but it can cut off the clinging to the belief that the barren woman's son has ears. If it is certain that the 'I' itself does not exist, then the clinging to the belief that the eyes and so on of the 'I' exist will be reversed. If even those of our own school who assert that the person is nominally existent, the proponents of entities, do not assert that the person is ultimately established, then will they also understand that the eyes and so on are selfless? If so, then the gross things like the eyes and sprouts are also considered nominally existent by them, so they will also understand them as selfless. If you think so, then if you assert that, it contradicts your own commitments, and it becomes unnecessary to prove that sprouts and so on are without inherent existence, and virtuous and non-virtuous actions...
