Now, even if named from the way of generating the view of ascertaining the emptiness of ultimate truth, it is definitely either Prasangika or Svatantrika. Then, who did these teachers follow to seek the intention of the Holy Father and Sons (Avalokiteshvara and Manjushri)? It seems that they followed the great Lord Atisha, who mainly followed the system of the teacher Chandrakirti, and the great previous lamas of this lineage also mainly uphold that system. The teacher Chandrakirti considered that among the commentators on the Root Wisdom, the teacher Buddhapalita had completely explained the intention of the Holy One, so he based his system on that, and also adopted many good explanations from the teacher Bhavaviveka, refuting those that seemed slightly unreasonable, and thus explained the intention of the Holy One. Because I see that the commentaries of these two teachers are the most outstanding for explaining the scriptures of the Holy Father and Sons, here I will follow the teacher Buddhapalita and the glorious Chandrakirti, thereby establishing the intention of the Holy One. Third, regarding the way of establishing the view of emptiness, there are two aspects: the stages of entering into Suchness, and the actual establishment of Suchness. First, what is the Suchness Nirvana to be attained here? And what is the method of attaining it, that is, entering into Suchness, and through what kind of way does one enter? If one thinks like this, then all these various external and internal dharmas that appear as not being Suchness, through the pacification together with their habitual tendencies, the complete cessation of self-grasping and grasping at what belongs to self, this is the Dharmakaya of Suchness to be attained here. The stages of entering into Suchness are: first, one needs someone who is weary from contemplating the faults of samsara, and who has generated the desire to abandon it. Then, because one sees that it will not be reversed unless the cause is changed, one thinks about what the root of samsara is, thereby tracing its root. One needs to be deeply convinced from the bottom of one's heart that the view of self or ignorance is the root of samsara, and one needs to generate a non-artificial desire to abandon it. Then, because one sees that the reversal of the view of self depends on the arising of wisdom that realizes the selflessness of what it grasps, one should refute the self.

I think it is necessary to do so. If someone seeks liberation, they must rely on the scriptures and reasoning that harm the existence of "I" and prove the non-existence of "I" to gain certainty. Therefore, if one gains the view that there is not even a little bit of inherent existence in "I" and "mine," and by familiarizing oneself with its meaning, one will attain the Dharmakaya. As it says in the Prasannapadā: "If afflictions, actions, bodies, agents, and results, all these are not real, but like a city of Gandharvas, although not real, they appear as real to children. Then, what is real here, and how does one enter into reality? It should be said that because internal and external things are not perceived, therefore all clinging to internal and external as self and as belonging to self is extinguished. This is reality here. The way to enter into reality is: all afflictions and faults arise from the view of the aggregates, seen by the mind as arising from view, the yogi understands that I am the object of this, and thus prevents the self. And so on, it should be sought from entering into the Madhyamaka." It says: "Here, the yogi who wants to enter into reality and wants to completely abandon all afflictions and faults, thinks in this way: What is the root of this samsara? When he thinks in this way, he sees that the root of samsara is the view of the aggregates, and he sees that I am the object of that view of the aggregates. Because the self is not perceived, therefore he prevents the view of the aggregates, and seeing that he has prevented it, all afflictions and faults will cease. Therefore, he first thinks about the "I," which is called the object of clinging to self: What exactly is this "I"? As mentioned above. Although there are many reasons for denying inherent existence to each of the countless phenomena, when the yogi enters, in short, he ascertains that there is no inherent existence in self and what belongs to self, and then meditates on it. This is the meaning of the eighteenth chapter of the Mūlamadhyamakakārikā, which was composed by Ācārya Candrakīrti based on what was said by Buddhapālita. Madhyamaka
