Thinking, and resolving to never make this mistake again, from now on, increase both the forces of protection and restraint. For each mistake that occurs: I will blame myself, no matter what, I will not make this mistake again in the future. I will think like this for a long time. Like this, in order for the root of strong and continuous mindfulness to arise, one should strive to find the profound causes. One should rely on associating with holy spiritual friends and holy companions, and on the activities of hearing the Dharma extensively, and so on. Just like this: How, in these circumstances, will mindfulness transform into habit? One should meet through this cause, or desire rational action. Like this. In short, first, through hearing, one should clearly distinguish the content to be abandoned and adopted in the bodhisattva's training. Then, for the meaning of what is known, one must continuously cultivate mindfulness in all activities, therefore one must exert effort, and it is very important not to deviate from the direction of effort. Fourth, from there, the way to make body and mind serviceable is, to become a power of being in control. This is also as explained in the chapter on "Non-Recklessness," the necessity of learning the bodhisattva's training, and the great faults of not learning after making a promise, and the way to view afflictions as enemies, and the way to generate the power of mind that does not regard hardship as a burden at that time, but as an adornment, and so on. Before entering these, through meditation, transform all the stingy thoughts that are unwilling to use body and mind for virtue, and make oneself capable of learning the bodhisattva's conduct. In any case, from past actions, there is power over everything. Like this, remembering the teachings of non-recklessness, make oneself capable. Like this. If one strives, what kind of diligence will arise? Just as the wind controls the cotton fluff to move back and forth, one's own body and mind are controlled by the joy of delighting in virtue, and following it, diligence is perfected. If diligence arises, then from then on, all accomplishments will be easily achieved. Just as the wind controls the cotton fluff moving back and forth, similarly, joy controls, and in that way, it will be accomplished. Like this. These are difficult to do.

I must strive and not give up. The glorious Makhol said: Without experiencing arduous effort, it is difficult to attain a high position. Therefore, without regard for yourself, you should cultivate diligence well. Thus it is said. So, how should one act when accomplishing these? Whatever diligence one practices, it should be practiced with the six perfections and in connection with the six pāramitās. The giving of diligence is to abide in it oneself and also to establish others in it. The rest are as previously explained. Fifth, summarizing the meaning of these is: Remembering and meditating on the mind of enlightenment, which is the basis of conduct, is what encourages learning for the sake of establishing all sentient beings in diligence. Therefore, increase it. Then, take the methods of practicing diligence on high ground as objects of aspiration and train. Also, strive according to your ability in the methods of learning diligence for beginners. In particular, thoroughly prevent the faults to be abandoned of uncommon diligence, which are discouragement. To accomplish the enlightenment to be attained, and to accomplish and eliminate the happiness and suffering of all sentient beings, one should mentally don the armor of diligence, which rejoices in very long periods of time, accumulating immeasurable collections, and undergoing immeasurable austerities. Merely generating such a sublime thought accumulates sublime merit, as stated in the Sutra Requested by Lagzang, so one should strive. If one does not do so, the power of the lineage will never grow, and one will also be constantly stained by many misdeeds. In future lives, it will also become very difficult to learn the conduct of a bodhisattva. Knowing these things, even if one cannot practice them as they are, one should incline one's mind towards them and strive as much as one can. As stated in the Sutra Requested by Lagzang, in future lives, with little effort, one will effortlessly and quickly perfect the pāramitā of diligence. There are five points to learning the pāramitā of meditation: the nature of meditation, the method of entering into meditation, the classification of meditation, how to act during practice, and summarizing the meaning of these. The first point is: a virtuous one-pointed mind that does not stray from its object of focus. In the Bodhisattva Bhumi, it says: The mind of enlightenment
