Generating Interest: Just as one desires the pleasurable fruit of play, what kind of activity should one engage in with this? One should be attached to that activity and find joy in it without being satisfied. As it is said, just as children engage in the activity of play without satisfaction, one should strive to generate such a mind. That is, just as one is not satisfied with the fruit of happiness, one should also not be satisfied with the activity that is its cause. Since ordinary people exert effort even when they doubt whether they will obtain the fruit of happiness, there is no need to mention that they will certainly engage in whatever activity will produce the fruit of happiness. Even if one acts for the sake of happiness, it is uncertain whether happiness will arise. If an activity itself will certainly produce happiness, how can one be happy without doing it? So it is said. For this reason, one should not be satisfied. Like honey on the edge of a razor, if one is not satisfied with desires, how much less should one be satisfied with the merit of ripened happiness and peace? As it is said, even if there is a chance to taste a little sweetness, but licking it is like honey clinging to the sharp edge of a razor that cuts the tongue, although there is temporary pleasure, it brings great suffering in this life and the next. One is not satisfied with indulging in the desirable qualities of desire. How could one be satisfied with the accumulation of merit that bestows limitless temporary and lasting happiness without fault? Thinking in this way, one should generate a mind of non-satisfaction. Therefore, in order to perfect the virtuous activities that one engages in, one should train until one generates a mind like that of an elephant exhausted by the sun entering a delightful lotus lake at midday. In order to complete such activities, just as an elephant exhausted by the sun at midday encounters a lake and enters it, one should also engage in that activity. So it is said. The Power of Abandonment: If the body and mind become tired due to exertion, one should rest for a while. If not, one will become very bored and weary, which will later become an obstacle to exertion. As soon as one has rested, one should exert oneself again. If the previous task has been well completed, one should not be content with that, but should exert oneself to do something else. If it is related to the weakening of strength, one should abandon it for the sake of what is to be done later, and do it well.

If you are content with what you have attained, you must abandon the future (merit). Because desiring the future (merit) requires abandoning it. This passage is very important. If you are content with previous merits, it will become a great obstacle to obtaining more and higher merits. This explains the method of encouraging diligence, which should be continuous like a river, neither too hasty and forceful, nor too lax. As the glorious Makhol said: "In order to achieve excellence, you have not had the slightest slackness. Therefore, your excellence, from beginning to end, has no distinction of order." Potowa also said: "It cannot be like the fence of Semo Zhupa. The fence of the northerners, from the beginning, is woven with effort, until the robbers come. Similarly, you must extend the time of weaving with effort. For example, the louse crawls without stopping, so it crawls quickly. But the leech jumps and stops, so it does not crawl far." Third, relying on those two to diligently encourage effort, that is, after recognizing the three obstacles to diligence, relying on the antidote, confessing sins. Generate the favorable conditions for the unarisen to arise—desire, and the cause for the arisen not to regress—steadfastness, and the power of joy in not wanting to interrupt when engaging in that activity. Be skilled in the method of encouraging diligence with the power of abandonment. Therefore, it is necessary to generate the power to diligently encourage diligence, so it will be explained. Among them, how should one act when encouraging the diligence of abandoning what is to be abandoned? As it is said: "Like an experienced warrior meeting the enemy on the battlefield, wielding swords, protecting against the weapons of afflictions, defeating all the enemies of afflictions." For example, an experienced warrior, an expert familiar with that activity, when fighting with enemies and swords, etc., does not only think of defeating the opponent, but is skilled in avoiding being harmed by weapons himself. Like this, when a practitioner fights with afflictions, he must also be careful that afflictions do not harm his mind in return, and be skilled in relying on antidotes to defeat the opponent. If it is not like this, even if one blocks a part of the action of afflictions with an antidote, the afflictions
