Moreover, if the timing of others and the fruit also becomes inferior, then it will not succeed. Thus it is said. Therefore, wanting the vow to be fulfilled, one should cultivate the three prides, namely: action and affliction, and ability, generate pride towards these three. Thus it is said. Among them, the pride of action is: not relying on anyone else as a companion to accomplish one's own path, but accomplishing it alone, namely: I will accomplish it alone. This is the pride of action itself. Also, as it is said in the 'Letter to a Friend': Liberation depends on oneself, for this, others have no help at all. Thus it is said. This refers to not relying on others, thinking that one can accomplish it alone, this thought is similar to pride, therefore it is called pride. The pride of ability is: beings are controlled by afflictions, unable to accomplish even their own benefit, let alone the benefit of others? I am able to accomplish the benefit of myself and others, thinking this and accomplishing it, namely: this world controlled by afflictions, unable to accomplish its own benefit, beings cannot do as I do, therefore I should do this. Thus it is said. Furthermore, if these others do not stop striving for inferior actions, why should I not do the action of accomplishing abundant fruits? Thinking this and accomplishing it, namely: when others do inferior actions, why should I remain? Thus it is said. However, in accomplishing these two, it is not accomplished by belittling others and boasting oneself, but by looking with a loving attitude, not mixing with pride, namely: pride will not do this, it is best that I have no pride. Thus it is said. Thinking that others cannot do it but I can, this also conforms to the nature of pride, therefore it is called pride. The pride of affliction is: belittling afflictions in all ways, thinking that I will conquer these afflictions, these afflictions must never conquer me, for destroying the unfavorable side, generating the courage of wisdom and making it firm, namely: I will conquer all, no one can conquer me. The lion's sons of the victors, should abide in this pride. Thus it is said. If one does not do so and becomes weak, then even a small unfavorable side can cause harm, namely: if encountering a dead snake, even a crow will act like a garuda.

If one is weak, even a small downfall can cause harm. For those who are discouraged and abandon effort, where is there liberation from poverty? So it is said. Sharawa said: The happiness of abandoning the Dharma is not greater than the previous happiness. Moreover, if you abandon the Dharma here, you must think that you will have to experience endless suffering in the future. If you do not make effort yourself, the afflictions will not have compassion for you. The antidote will also say, you cannot practice, so we will complete it ourselves, and will not come. Even the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas cannot protect you, so it is said. If you have pride like the previous one, even great adverse conditions cannot interrupt you. Therefore, you must generate pride, that is: by generating pride and effort, even great things are difficult to conquer. Therefore, with a steadfast mind, destroy all downfalls. So it is said. If it is not like that, if the practitioner is defeated by downfall, but wants to overcome the afflictions of the three realms, it is a matter of shame for the wise. If I am defeated by downfall, wanting to conquer the three realms will become a joke. So it is said. This is because of despising the afflictions and wanting to destroy them, so it is called the pride of afflictions. The explanations of the commentators are different from this, but I think that from the scriptures, the former explanation is more reasonable. In this way, it should be understood that one cuts off expectations from others and does it alone. That is, others cannot do it like oneself, but one has the ability, so one should be full of confidence. After seeing it in this way, when practicing, one should also generate the firm belief that one can destroy the afflictions, but the afflictions can never destroy oneself, and consider the faults of abandoning the vow at times. After careful observation, for everything that needs to be done, one should practice until one has not found the firm determination to want to finally complete all vows. Generating the power of joy is to generate diligence that has not yet arisen through the power of strong desire and faith, and to cultivate the power of steadfastness or the power of pride as the cause of not reversing what has already arisen. When entering for the first time, one should also enter joyfully, and after entering, one does not want to interrupt that work, this mind of insatiability is the power of joy, so one should generate it. So, what is the state of insatiability like?
