After sweeping the ground, one gradually gives away one's own flesh as well. When one has the thought towards one's own body, like that of vegetables, etc., then giving away flesh, etc., what difficulty is there in that? Thus it is said. Therefore, some people feel pain because the practitioners of the pāramitā vehicle need to give up their lives, and say that it is a difficult path to practice, but this treatise has refuted it well. Because one does not give up while the thought of difficult practice arises, but one gives up when it is very easy, like giving away vegetables, etc. In order to prevent discouragement in the place where one dwells and practices the path, attaining Buddhahood needs to be done by taking endless rebirths in samsara. At that time, if one thinks that one cannot do so because one is harmed by the suffering of samsara, then, because the Bodhisattva has abandoned sins, the cause is reversed, so the result of feeling suffering will not arise. Moreover, because one has firmly realized that samsara is without self-nature, like an illusion, there is no suffering in the mind, and if the body and mind increase with happiness, then even if one stays in samsara, there is no reason to be discouraged, so one should think like this: Because sins are abandoned, there is no suffering; because of wisdom, there is no displeasure. Like this, wrong thoughts and sins harm the mind and body. Merit makes the body happy, and wisdom makes the mind happy. Even if one stays in samsara for the sake of others, why should those with compassion be discouraged? Thus it is said. Therefore, in order to eliminate all discouragement and fatigue, riding on the horse of bodhicitta, going from happiness to happiness, who with a mind of knowledge would become discouraged? Thus it is said. Similarly, one should not be discouraged by the passage of immeasurable time, because the length of time itself is not the cause of discouragement. Like this, if the suffering is very severe, even a short time will be discouraging, but if there is no suffering and there is happiness, even a long time will not be discouraging. As it is said in the Ratnavali: When suffering, even a short time is difficult to endure, what need is there to mention a long time? When there is no suffering and there is happiness, what harm is there in endless time? At that time, there is no suffering of the body, where is there suffering of the mind? That is because compassion pities the world, and it is because of that that one stays for a long time. Therefore, those with intelligence will not be discouraged because attaining Buddhahood takes a long time. In order to eliminate faults and achieve qualities, one should always strive for this. Thus it is said. Furthermore, attaining Buddhahood requires the completion of limitless accumulations.

It should be so. But do not be discouraged because it is very difficult, thinking that you cannot do it. In order to benefit limitless sentient beings, and with the aspiration to attain the limitless qualities of the Buddha, generate diligence. Aiming to abide for immeasurable time, vow to accumulate immeasurable merit. Having taken vows in this way, whether asleep or not, whether the mind is distracted or not, as long as you have the vows, you will constantly accumulate merit like the sky. Therefore, it is not difficult to perfect immeasurable merit. As it is said in the scriptures: Like the sky pervades all directions, and the earth, water, fire, and wind are boundless, so too is the desire to liberate boundless beings from suffering. Bodhisattvas, with compassion, rescue beings from all suffering, and will surely establish them in Buddhahood. Those who abide steadfastly in this way, whether sleeping or not, are not hindered. From the moment they take the vows, even if they are negligent, because sentient beings are limitless, like sentient beings, they constantly accumulate limitless merit. Because of this limitlessness, it is not difficult to attain the limitless Buddha. If one dwells for immeasurable time, for the sake of immeasurable sentient beings, desiring immeasurable enlightenment, and performing immeasurable good deeds, even though they attain immeasurable enlightenment, with the four immeasurable qualities, the accumulation of merit will not take long. How could they not achieve it? And so on. Therefore, if, driven by the intense force of love, compassion, and bodhicitta, one thinks of attaining Buddhahood in a short time for the benefit of sentient beings, that is very wonderful. However, if these are lacking, and one sees that it is necessary to experience a very long time and limitless practice, and that it is necessary to undergo many austerities, if one thinks, 'Who can do that?' and seeks a shortcut, then one will indirectly harm the aspiration bodhicitta, and directly harm the action bodhicitta. Furthermore, the power of the Mahayana lineage will gradually weaken, and the path to Buddhahood will become very distant. This is because it is completely contrary to the intentions of the Buddhas, as established by Nagarjuna and Asanga, which greatly increase the power of bodhicitta. Therefore, if one sits down discouraged, it will not help anything and will only become more discouraging.
