Kyi. How can there be anger and retaliation? Think this from the bottom of your heart. To prevent intolerance towards hindering respect etc. and engaging in insults etc., there are two divisions. Among them, to prevent intolerance towards hindering praise etc., there are three divisions. Thinking that praise etc. have no merits, thinking that they have faults, therefore one should be happy to prevent these. First, when others praise oneself and one's fame increases, there is neither longevity and health etc. in this life, nor the benefit of obtaining merit etc. in the next life. Therefore, being unhappy about the decline of these is like children crying when a sandcastle that cannot fulfill any function of a house collapses, thinking that oneself and them are no different, one should belittle oneself and not be attached. The service of praise and fame will not turn into merit, will not turn into thorns, will not turn into one's own strength, is not without illness, and will not turn into bodily comfort either. If I understand my own benefit, then what self-benefit is there in it? Just like when a sandcastle collapses, children will cry, similarly when praise and fame decline, one's own mind is like a child. Second, praise etc. are distractions from matters that are not the mind's concern, causing discouragement to disappear, generating jealousy towards those with merits, and causing virtuous deeds to decline. After thinking this, one should generate aversion towards these. Praise etc. make me distracted, therefore they also make discouragement disappear, generate jealousy towards those with merits, and also make perfection decline. Third, in this way, my praise and fame and gain and respect decline, which protects me from falling into the lower realms, cuts off the bonds of attachment, and blocks the door to entering suffering. One should think that it is like the blessing of the Buddha, and from the bottom of one's heart, prevent anger and generate joy. Therefore, my praise etc., exist for the sake of destruction, are those people not coming to protect me from falling into the lower realms? I seek liberation, I do not need the bonds of gain and respect, those who liberate my bonds, I

Why be angry? I wish to endure suffering, but the Buddha, like a blessing, has become a latch that does not let go. Why should I be angry at it? Thus it is said. Secondly, refuting the inability to tolerate others committing three acts such as contempt: The mind is not a physical thing, so it cannot be directly harmed by others. If the body is directly harmed, and thus indirectly harms the mind, but contempt and the like cannot even harm the body, since it does not harm both body and mind, one should be happy, thinking in this way to eliminate displeasure. If displeasure can be eliminated, anger will not arise. Thus it is said: The mind is not a physical thing, so no one can destroy it anywhere. Because of attachment to the body, the body is harmed by suffering. If contempt, harsh words, and unpleasant words do not harm the body, why is your mind so angry? Thus it is said. Venerable Sharawa said: No matter how much respect is given to Khamlungpa, Neu Zurpa, and Drapa, it is no different from speaking to earth and stones, so I feel at ease. All the others felt uneasy because their ears were too sensitive. Geshe Xiangdun said: If someone says, "So-and-so said these words," that is also passing on secrets. You should confess the slander you have committed. To the yogi Sherab Dorje, someone said: People say there are disputes between us as well. The yogi replied: Yes, people only talk about people, otherwise what would they talk about? From then on, the act of sowing discord was completely cut off. Suppose that because of being subjected to contempt and the like, others dislike oneself, and therefore one feels displeased, even if others disliking oneself really causes harm, in reality it does not affect oneself in any way, therefore one should abandon displeasure. Others dislike me, this will not harm me in this life or in the next, why am I unwilling to accept it? Thus it is said. Even if displeasure does not harm me, if one relies on it, it will hinder the attainment of benefits from them, therefore one is angry at contempt, slander, and unpleasant words, if one thinks like this: Even if one obtains benefits, one must leave them here. The sin arising from anger will follow oneself, it is better to die early without benefits than to live long with wrong livelihood. Even if one obtains benefits and lives long, one cannot escape death, one must die eventually.
