Having no regret in the beginning, middle, and end of giving, and not being discouraged even when hearing of the vast generosity of Bodhisattvas, not belittling oneself but increasing joy. The thought of not turning one's back is: giving with equal compassion, without partiality, to enemies, friends, and ordinary people. The thought of not looking for a return is: not giving with the expectation of others' gratitude, but because one sees that beings lack happiness, are burned by the fire of desire, have no power to relieve suffering, and are by nature suffering. The thought of not looking for the ripening of karma is: not expecting the ripening of enjoyment and a perfect body in the future, because one sees that all conditioned things are without essence and regards unsurpassed enlightenment as beneficial. This does not prevent expecting temporary results, but it does prevent clinging to the body and enjoyment of samsara as something to be attained. Furthermore, after giving, not hoping that kings and others will know that one is generous and give respect, without this intention of wrong livelihood. Not not giving for fear of becoming poor. Towards beggars, having no intention of deceiving, no displeasure, anger, or mental distraction. Not being weary of the various wrongdoings of beggars, and even if one sees the faults of beggars, such as self-deception, not having the intention of proclaiming them to others. Believing that each giving produces its own result, which others cannot change, and thus giving. Regarding the actions of how to give, there are two, of which what actions should not be used to give are: not giving quickly, but delaying giving. Giving after being afflicted by disturbing emotions. Forcing others to do actions that do not conform to the Dharma or worldly customs before giving. Reducing the amount previously promised, giving inferior or small amounts. Giving while enumerating favors. Giving little by little when it could be given all at once. After becoming a king, seizing the children and wives of others to give. Forcibly taking the property of parents and servants to give to others. Giving in a way that harms others. Self

Remaining in a state of equanimity and allowing others to act, as well as scolding beggars with insults, mockery, and indirect disparagement, rebuking them with harsh words before giving, and giving in violation of the precepts established by the Buddha, and not giving away possessions as soon as they are acquired, but accumulating them for a long time before giving, these are actions to be abandoned, and therefore should be discarded. Furthermore, the giving accumulated by a Bodhisattva is accompanied by faults, while giving away possessions as soon as they are acquired is seen as faultless. Accumulating in this way and giving all at once does not result in more merit, and during the accumulation process, many who come to beg for possessions are turned away, causing them mental anguish, and finally giving to some who have not received anything. Therefore, what is said in the Bodhisattva-bhumi is very important, because during this time many afflictions such as stinginess arise, and the act of guarding and protecting obstructs many virtuous deeds, and in most cases it is lost in the middle, so the final giving is not accomplished. With what kind of action should one give? With a bright and smiling face, speaking first, and being honest, being respectful to whatever field of merit, and giving with one's own hands, giving in a timely manner, not harming others, and enduring hardship and suffering while giving. The results of these actions are: In the chapter on the Truthful One, it says: "By giving with reverence and offerings, relatives and others will make offerings with reverence. By giving with one's own hands, one will obtain those who make offerings with reverence. By giving in a timely manner, things will be accomplished in a timely manner." And, "By giving without harming others, one will obtain stable wealth. By giving while enduring discomfort, one's retinue will become close." As it is said. In the Abhidharmakosha, it is said that giving with one's own hands will obtain vast wealth. Stable wealth means that wealth will not be interrupted by others, nor will it be destroyed by fire, etc., as explained in the commentary on the Abhidharmakosha. Furthermore, the action of helping others to give is: if one has possessions, one should go to the homes of those stingy people who have never given alms, and make them happy and
