Cutting off stinginess and giving wholeheartedly to others, and not only that, but also making the habit of dedicating the fruits of giving to sentient beings complete, is the reason for the perfection of giving. As it is said in the Bodhicharyavatara: "If making beings poor were the perfection of giving, then since beings were poor in the past, how could the Able One have perfected it? It is said that the perfection of giving is the mind that wishes to give all possessions, together with their fruits, to all beings. Therefore, it is the mind itself." Therefore, the practice of the perfection of giving is to generate and increase the mind of giving from various aspects, even if one does not actually give material things to others. Secondly, merely cutting off all stinginess towards the body and possessions does not become the perfection of giving, because stinginess belongs to the category of attachment, and even the Arhats of the Lesser Vehicle have completely abandoned all attachment, including its seeds. Therefore, not only should one eliminate the clinging of stinginess that hinders giving, but one must also generate from the depths of one's heart the thought of giving all possessions to others. For this, one needs to meditate on the faults of clinging and the benefits of giving, so now I will speak about these. The Chandrapradipa Sutra says: "This decaying body and fleeting life, like dreams and illusions, are what foolish children are attached to. They commit extremely evil deeds and fall under the power of sin. Ignorant, they are driven by the Lord of Death. Those miserable ones go to hell." This means that the body is impure, life is as impermanent as water flowing down a cliff, and both body and life are subject to karma, so there is no independent "I." One should regard the false body as one regards dreams and illusions, and thereby cut off attachment to the body. If one does not change this view, one will be controlled by attachment, accumulate various evil deeds, and ultimately fall into the lower realms. Furthermore, the Dharani of Accomplishing Limitless Doors also says: "If sentient beings quarrel with each other, the root of that is clinging. Therefore, one should abandon the objects of attachment. Abandoning attachment becomes mantra." And the Compendium of Trainings also says: "Thus, my body and my mind are constantly changing from moment to moment. If...

If the body, which constantly flows with impurities, can attain constant and pure Bodhi, isn't that a priceless treasure? As it is said in the Jataka tales: The body, which is selfless, perishable, and without essence, full of suffering, ungrateful, and constantly impure, if it can benefit others, if one does not rejoice in this, then one is not wise. As it is said. Even if one tries hard to protect it, the body, which is without essence and must be abandoned, if given to others with good intentions, can accomplish many benefits for oneself and others. If one does not train the mind in this way, it is a foolish act. One should think like this and generate the mind to give one's body and so on to others. It is also said in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: By giving up everything, one attains nirvana. I will accomplish the wisdom of attaining nirvana. Giving up everything at once is the best offering to sentient beings. So it is said. It is also said in the Compendium of Perfections: When you see that all enjoyments are impermanent, and great compassion becomes your nature, giving to yourself and others brings happiness, and you will understand this principle very reasonably. Giving does not give rise to any fear, but keeping things at home only creates fear. Unreasonable common things must be protected, but giving does not have those faults. Giving brings happiness in this life and the next, but not giving creates suffering even in this life. People's wealth is like a shooting star, and if it is not given away, it will disappear. Wealth that is not given away will eventually be impermanent and destroyed, but giving will make it a treasure to possess. The wealth that is given away with the intention of benefiting sentient beings, even if it has no essence, can become meaningful. One who gives completely is praised by the wise, while foolish people are happy to accumulate. There is nothing that cannot be separated from complete possession, but giving always brings abundance. Giving prevents afflictions from taking root, and stinginess is not the path of the noble, but only breeds afflictions. Giving is the supreme path, and other than that, the noble ones say it is an evil path. So it is said. Whatever virtuous roots, whether large or small, are dedicated and given away from the depths of one's heart for the sake of benefiting all sentient beings and achieving temporary and ultimate great happiness. By relying on each sentient being, one can obtain such merit, and therefore easily complete the accumulation of merit.
