The arising of the training of meditative stabilization in which the mind abides peacefully within by relying on mindfulness and awareness regarding the engagement and disengagement of proper and improper conduct. Near pacification is the arising of the training of wisdom by individually examining the correct meaning based on a calm abiding that makes the mind workable. Thus, it is not enough to have only the qualities of realization that tame the mindstream with the three trainings. One must also have the qualities of scripture. Being rich in scripture means having extensive learning in the three baskets and so forth. Geshe Tonpa said, "When explaining the actions of a Mahayana lama, one must generate boundless understanding, but when putting it into practice, one must show what benefits the end of the teachings and what directly affects the meaning." Realizing that very thing is mainly taking the realization of the selflessness of phenomena, a special training of wisdom, or the realization of that very nature as the main thing. Even if that is not the case, it is said that it can be accomplished through realization by scripture and reasoning. Thus, even if one has scripture and realization, it is not enough to be inferior to or equal to the student, so one needs a superior quality. As it says in the Collection of Friends: "Serving an inferior one causes one to degenerate, Serving an equal one remains in place, Serving a superior one obtains excellence, Therefore, one should serve one who is superior to oneself. Morality, near peace, and, Wisdom, most excellent, Whoever is superior, serve that superior one, Having served the superior one, one becomes the most superior of the superior." Therefore, when Phuchungwa heard the biographies of the holy ones, he said, "I look up to them." And Madhyantika said, "I look to those old men of Radreng (Rwa-sgreng) (now northeast of Lhunzhub (林周县) in Lhasa (拉萨))." Likewise, one must look up to superior qualities. Thus, those six dharmas are the qualities that one has obtained oneself. The remainder is the quality of leading others, as it is said: "The Buddhas do not wash away sins with water, Nor do they remove the suffering of beings with their hands, Nor do they transfer their own realization, They liberate by teaching the truth of suchness." As it says, other than showing the path without error to others and taking them in, washing away sins with water and so forth cannot be done. Among those four dharmas, being skilled in speaking is being skilled in the order of how to lead and in taming the object of taming.

It is to strive to increase the wisdom (of the audience). Compassion is: the motivation of the Dharma speaker is pure, not greedy for fame and gain, etc., but initiated and spoken with love and compassion. Venerable Potowa said to Ken Tsawa: "Son of Limo, how much Dharma have I spoken, and I have never received even a single 'good'. It is necessary to speak as if saying that there is no sentient being who is not pitiful." Diligence is: having a firm enthusiasm for benefiting others. Abandoning weariness is: not being tired of repeated preaching, being able to endure the hardship of preaching. Venerable Potowa said: "The three trainings of discipline, the realization of reality, and the five of compassion are the main ones. My teacher Shang Tsun Kunla, neither had extensive learning nor could endure hardship, and even did not use rewards to repay, because he possessed the first five virtues, so he benefited everyone present. Nyangton is not good at words, occasionally says some merits, but only thinks 'These people don't understand this time', and doesn't know anything else, but because he possesses these five virtues, he benefits those who are close to him." Therefore, if one does not strive to practice the precepts, but only praises the merits of the precepts to maintain one's own life, then one is not suitable to be a spiritual friend. It is like some people who make a living by praising sandalwood, and if someone asks him, "Do you have sandalwood?" He replies, "No." This is like meaningless empty talk. As the Samadhiraja Sutra says: "In the degenerate age, there are many monks without precepts, desiring much learning. They only praise the precepts, but do not pursue the true meaning of the precepts." The sutra also says this about samadhi, wisdom, and liberation: "Just like some people, praising sandalwood saying: 'The fragrance of this sandalwood is delightful.' Then another person asks him: 'Do you have a little sandalwood?' That person replies: 'I make a living by praising the fragrance of sandalwood, but I don't have sandalwood.' Similarly, un-diligent yogis, in the degenerate age, will make a living by praising the precepts, but they themselves have no precepts." The sutra also made similar descriptions of the remaining three.
