Abandoning the second of the dark dharmas, if you sincerely wish to establish all happiness ultimately for others, then, in order not to generate mere regret that displeases others, do not intentionally engage in actions that cause displeasure. As it is also said in the "Lion's Roar Sutra": "In all lifetimes, the mind of enlightenment, even in dreams, will not abandon this mind. When not sleeping, it will not be abandoned. What need is there to say, how could it be abandoned when awake?" The Blessed One declared: "Whether in towns or cities, or in whatever places one dwells, one should truly introduce them to enlightenment. Therefore, do not abandon the mind." Thus it is said. Furthermore, if one possesses the four qualities of subduing pride, abandoning jealousy and miserliness, and rejoicing in the prosperity of others, one will not abandon the aspiration, as stated in the "Adornment of Manjushri's Pure Land Sutra." Also, as stated in the "Cloud of Jewels Sutra": "In all activities, cultivate the mind of enlightenment, and before doing any virtuous deed, generate the mind of enlightenment, then in future lives, one will not be separated from the precious mind." Just as people contemplate repeatedly, and so forth, it is clearly shown. Thirdly, regarding the method of restoring after degeneration: If one degenerates in the four dark dharmas and abandoning sentient beings, these five, or if one thinks, "I am unable to attain Buddhahood," and abandons the generation of the mind, these six, if the session time has passed, one abandons the aspiration. If regret arises within the session time, it becomes a cause for degeneration. If one degenerates in taking the vow six times and training in the two accumulations, it is merely a cause for degeneration. If a cause for abandonment arises, one should recite the ritual for taking the aspiration. If it is merely a cause for degeneration, one does not need to repeat the ritual, confession is sufficient, as many say. Regarding this, if one thinks, "I am unable to attain Buddhahood," and abandons the generation of the mind, then one should abandon it immediately, without needing to wait for the session time at all, therefore it is unreasonable in all ways. The four dark dharmas are not a cause for abandoning the generation of the mind in this life, but rather a cause for the generation of the mind not manifesting in future lives, therefore one should prevent it in this life. As it is said in the "Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment": "In order to remember in future lives as well, one should fully protect the trainings as previously stated." Thus it is said. As previously stated refers to what is said in the "Sutra Requested by Light-Bestower." The meaning of the sutra itself is also the same. Light-Bestower, the mind of enlightenment.
