As it is said, "endowed with completeness," all beings, such as gods and nagas, who are able to generate aspiration from body and mind, can serve as the basis for this. Here, as stated in the commentary on the "Lamp for the Path," "Disgust with samsara, mindfulness of death, great wisdom, and great compassion." As previously explained, it refers to someone who has gained a slight experience of transforming the mind towards bodhicitta through cultivating the stages of the path. The ritual for receiving it has three parts. The preliminary ritual has three parts: performing special refuge, accumulating merit, and cultivating the mind. The first has three parts: arranging the place, adorning it, and displaying the supports, arranging offerings; making requests and taking refuge; and stating the precepts of having taken refuge. The first is: In a secluded place, a sinful person should prepare the ground well and make it clean. Anoint it with a mixture of five products of a cow, and also anoint it with excellent sandalwood and other fragrant waters, and scatter fragrant flowers. Place the images of the Three Jewels, such as cast images, as well as scriptures and the images of bodhisattvas, on a throne, a small bed, or a good seat. Prepare banners and other offerings such as flowers, as well as musical instruments, food, and decorations, as much as possible. Also, arrange the seat for the virtuous spiritual friend, adorned with flowers. The above should be preceded by accumulating merit through offering to the Sangha and giving torma to the spirits. If there are no offerings, as stated in the "Bhadrakalpa Sutra," it can be accomplished even by offering silk scarves. If there are offerings, then one should not be stingy, but seek them out diligently and arrange them to the point that friends cannot accommodate them. It is said that when Atisha requested the generation of bodhicitta in Mangyul and Samye (桑耶寺), he could not generate bodhicitta because the offerings were not good. The object of support must be an image of the chief of the teachings that has been consecrated. If there is absolutely no way, then one should collect scriptures, at least offering the Prajnaparamita Sutra. Then, as explained in the Guru's Action Sequence, invite the assembly of noble ones, recite the Cloud of Offerings Dharani three times, and offer praise. Then the student, having bathed and put on good clothes, with palms joined.

The Lama should have everyone generate joy from the depths of their hearts for the merits of all the fields of assembly, and thinking that they are standing in front of each Buddha and Bodhisattva, slowly engage in the seven-branch offering. Among these, most of the former are the seven-branch offering transmitted from Nagarjuna and Shantideva, and only the two, prostration and offering, are transmitted from Maitreya and Asanga. Furthermore, if one is confessing sins, one must feel regret, and be displeased; while the mind of enlightenment must arise in a state of joy and happiness, so saying "must" is not correct. The great Lord Atisha, in the ritual of generating the mind and vows, includes prostration and offering, etc. Moreover, in the order of the Lama's activities, it is clearly stated that all seven branches should be done before generating the mind. If the reason is like that, then it must also be admitted that the views of Nagarjuna and Shantideva cannot generate the mind of enlightenment either. Secondly, it is said that after that, the Lama must be regarded as the teacher, therefore, one should generate faith in the Buddha, prostrate and offer offerings and a mandala, then kneel on the ground with the right knee, join the palms, and pray for the sake of the mind of enlightenment. Just as all the Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Complete Buddhas, and great Bodhisattvas abiding on the great earth in the past, initially generated the mind of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. I, named so-and-so, also request the teacher to generate the mind of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment for me. Repeat this three times. Then take special refuge, that is, with the Buddha Bhagavan as the object of refuge, the truth of the path, mainly the cessation of the Mahayana, as the Dharma, and the Sangha of noble Bodhisattvas who do not regress as the Sangha. From now until the attainment of the fruit of enlightenment, in order to save all sentient beings, the Buddha is the guiding refuge, the Dharma is the actual refuge, and the Sangha is the companion who is asked to accomplish it, generate such a common intention. In particular, the Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment says: "With the intention of non-regression." Therefore, starting from such an intention, generate a strong desire not to regress at any time, and according to the previous behavior.
