Lo. Similarly, whatever worldly happiness we see, hear, and remember, that too is the world, that too is the world, that is suffering. It is like saying that there is nothing one can do about it and one can only feel disgusted. Thus, thinking about wandering in samsara from beginningless time makes one sad and weary; thinking about having to wander now makes one feel fear and dread, and this is not just talk. As it says in the Letter to a Friend: "Because samsara is like that, gods and humans, as well as hells, pretas, and animals, do not think of it as a good destination. Birth is a vessel of many harms, know this." As it says, one must prevent the root of all harms, which is birth in samsara. This also depends on preventing the two, karma and afflictions. And these two, if there are no afflictions, no matter how much karma there is, it will not lead to birth; if there are afflictions, even if there is no previously accumulated karma, it will be accumulated immediately, so one must destroy the afflictions. And destroying them depends on practicing the path that is not mistaken and is complete. There are two points here: what kind of basis prevents samsara, and what kind of path, when practiced, prevents it. The first is, as it says in the Letter to a Friend: "Holding wrong views and being an animal, a preta, and being born in hell, being born in a border region where there is no Buddha's teaching, being a barbarian, stupid, and mute, being born in any of the long-lived gods, these are the eight faults of not having leisure. Having obtained leisure by being free from these, strive to make effort to cut off birth." As it says, one must prevent samsara at this time when one has obtained leisure, because when one does not have leisure, there is no opportunity to prevent it. This has already been said. The great yogi said, "Now is the time to distinguish between livestock and non-livestock." Potowa also said, "Having wandered so much before without returning on your own, you will not return on your own now either, so you must prevent it. The time to prevent it is now, at this time when you have obtained leisure." Furthermore, living at home has many obstacles to practicing Dharma and is fraught with many faults; renunciation, on the other hand, is the opposite of this, so the basis for preventing samsara is renunciation, which is the most excellent, so the wise should
