Because there is no opportunity to first arise, abide, and perish. This is what is meant. Refuting the establishment of three characteristics simultaneously in one conditioned phenomenon in ultimate truth: It is impossible for all things to inherently possess the three characteristics of arising, abiding, and ceasing simultaneously. Because if arising, abiding, and ceasing, all phenomena inherently exist at the same time, then a single person must also simultaneously possess birth, aging, and death. Because the moment of a person's birth and abiding, i.e., aging, and destruction, i.e., death, are not the same time. This is as stated in the inner chapter: If it is at the same time, then birth, aging, and death are the same. Therefore, it is good to apply arising, abiding, and ceasing to different things. If one says that from the arising, abiding, and ceasing of the previous moment, the arising, abiding, and ceasing of the later moment gradually arise. But one would not say that a single moment itself gradually becomes those three, or simultaneously becomes those three. This is from "if" to "say." Therefore, this former proponent is not applying the three of arising, abiding, and ceasing to a single moment, but is refuting the arising of the former moment's own time, the second of the second's own time, and the abiding of the second moment's time, and the ceasing of the third moment's time. Otherwise, the following refutation would be irrelevant, and the previously refuted gradualness and the former proponent would become indistinguishable. The answer to this is: Even if one only acknowledges it in conventional truth, there is nothing unreasonable, but if one analyzes it with the reasoning of ultimate truth, it is unreasonable to acknowledge that it is established in that way, because here, in ultimate truth, the previous moment has not ceased, and another later moment does not arise, and similarly, the previous moment has ceased, and the later moment does not arise. For example: In ultimate truth, just as a sprout does not arise from a seed that has not decayed, nor does it arise from one that has decayed. That is to say, even in conventional truth, according to one's own system, a sprout arises from a seed that has decayed at the time of the sprout itself, but in ultimate truth, that is not permissible, like this. As stated in the second chapter, applying the example of a lamp, if a sprout inherently arises even from a decayed seed, then a lamp should also arise from a dead lamp.

The second will arise. If the seed does not cease, a sprout will naturally grow. When the seed is not damaged even a little, a green sprout will grow. Just like a chain of lighting one lamp from another, the seed and the sprout will also exist. Likewise, the moments before and after arising, abiding, and ceasing will also change. Like this, the way to prevent self-nature from being established by linking the moments before and after arising, abiding, and ceasing, which are each different and co-exist, is: In the Root Wisdom Treatise, it says: "The three, such as arising, cannot be the characteristics of conditioned phenomena. How can they be gathered in one thing at one time?" This is the reason that is said. Like this, summarizing the meaning established through connection is: The translation of the Xiong translator is a bit confusing, so it should be explained like this: As said before, there is no truly existing object, because there is no moment of self-nature being established, whether it is single or many. This is universally present, because single and many are actually mutually exclusive and contradictory. Like this, after showing that arising and ceasing, etc., are not established in the ultimate sense, therefore, the Buddha's wisdom of knowing reality as it is, for the aspect that serves as a measure of the ultimate truth, for that wisdom, it is never possible for arising and ceasing, etc., to appear. It has been said before, and now it is explained in detail as follows: Here, from "all moments" to "becoming a Buddha," it is the unchanging bliss of twenty-one thousand six hundred complete moments, initially shown at the time of complete enlightenment. After that, whenever, the yoga of the Buddhas' knowledge of reality as it is, for the aspect that serves as a measure of suchness, all moments of arising, abiding, and ceasing do not exist, separated from single and many, the supreme of non-dual appearance, because whether existence or non-existence, it is separated from being established in the ultimate sense. Here, the translation of "supreme non-dual" is not very good, it should be said "non-dual supreme." Then, in which wisdom will the moment and the many appear? As long as there is the wisdom that measures all the minds of sentient beings in the world,
