Here, in the Samucchaya it is said: "In the center of the solar mandala resides, glorious Heruka should be meditated upon." As such, the one with the seat of the sun mentioned here is because it is a wrathful deity. Wrathful deities are those with the seat of the sun and the rays of the sun. The simultaneous completion of the two mandalas is like the simultaneous completion of all the qualities and dharmas upon attaining Buddhahood. Although it does not happen like that when the world is formed on the ground, it will happen at the fruition, in the manner of using the fruition as the path. The eight great charnel grounds, according to Lawapa, symbolize the non-self of the eight consciousnesses that gather all realms of the world. Jowo Rinpoche, on the other hand, considers it to mean generating renunciation due to impermanence and suffering. When the saying of eight consciousnesses appears, there are those who think that the nature is different from the six consciousnesses, and that the two natures are also different; there are also those who think that it is only the mind consciousness itself, due to the power of transformation, that is said to be the Alaya consciousness and the afflicted mind, how these two appear, should be considered. Secondly, there are two: establishing the basis as clear, and establishing the deity who relies on it as clear. First, there are two: the explanation of the charnel ground, and the explanation of the rest of it. First, there are two: the actual explanation of the charnel ground, and the explanation of the trees and so on that reside there. The first is: the charnel ground is called Śavāśati in Sanskrit, Śava is corpse, Āśati is place, meaning the place of the corpse. Also, Śmaśāna means charnel ground, Śavānaṃ vasana, the va below Śava is changed to ma, connected to Śa it becomes Śma, the va at the end is changed to ra, connected to sa it becomes a long sā, Śava etc. becomes Śmaśāna, from the Garland of Pearls. It means the place where the corpse resides. The way the corpse resides is: the headless corpse walks, being blocked and hung it stands, falling down it lies down, pierced on the bright wood it performs the act of burning. Therefore, the place of the corpse is called charnel ground. The meaning of Heruka playing in that charnel ground is, in ManNye it is said: just as the corpses in the charnel ground are without self, so is everything. Therefore, the place where all sentient beings reside without self is the charnel ground. Sentient beings are also empty, empty of the nature of sentient beings, the places of sentient beings are also empty, empty of the nature of the places of sentient beings, such is the charnel ground.

Now, the meaning is like this. Therefore, the great compassion that does not cling to a specific place, and the nature of great wisdom, the great Bodhicitta, the nature of Mahamudra, it is appropriate for the Bhagavan to enjoy. It is said that the container and the contained world are established by their own nature, so in the emptiness of selflessness, the great bliss that arises together with compassion, this is considered to be a representative meaning, and this explanation is very good. Moreover, the true meaning of explaining the charnel ground is also like this. Therefore, on this path, it is necessary to determine the suchness of selflessness and then meditate. Regarding where the charnel ground should be located for the sake of the mandala: In the Vinayasamuccaya, old translation, it says: "Within the Vajra fence, it is adorned with eight charnel grounds." This is because, in that tantra, it says: "The marks of sixty-four points, at the end of all wheels." Because the sixty-four branches reach the end of the Vajra fence. Therefore, this is a wrong translation. According to the commentary, in the new translation it says: "Within the Vajra fence, it is adorned with eight charnel grounds." It is said that this translation is very good, and that is the case. The commentary says that it is also outside the fire mountain. In the Vajra Dakini it says: "At twice the colored earth, outside is the mandala of light. Outside that wheel, are charnel grounds of trees and so on." It says so. In the Vajra Garland it is quoted as saying: "Outside that wheel, are eight charnel grounds of trees and so on." This appears from the incomplete translation. In the Pramana translation it says: "Outside that environment, in the center of that environment, are eight charnel grounds of trees and so on." It says so, therefore the charnel ground is said to be outside the fire mountain. In the Manjushri Root Tantra it says: "Inside the Vajra tent, there is Dharma-arising completely surrounded by charnel grounds, as well as lotuses, and multi-storied houses located on various vajras." It is also said that there will be a charnel ground inside the Vajra fence. Shantideva also said: "There will be a charnel ground inside the Vajra fence." The so-called Vajra tent, Abhayakaragupta considers it to be the general name of the common protection wheel. The actual situation of the eight charnel grounds, in the Vinayasamuccaya it says: "Wrathful, fierce, as well as thickets, Vajra burning, holding skeletons, powerful one, as well as hateful laughter, flesh-eater, as well as auspicious supreme, intense darkness, devoid of truth."
